1/48 warthog. FINISHED

Hi Bob, the panel in the nose will be closed as their is nothing in there so thats my entry point for weight. If i can get 5-6 g in there that might just do it being right up the front. :)

I have done a little PE as i have it. Basically i think you need about 20% of the PE available to "improve" on kit parts, the rest is optional, after all some people really like using it and find it very rewarding even if its not really necessary.

None of this will really be seen but it kept e busy for a couple of hours.

On the contrary the undercarriage from the box features some strange loops next to the std Triangular suspension. These are , believe it or not, supposed to be cables :) so there is a fantastic example where PE is a huge improvement.

'nce cut off and replaced with more to scale PE things look a lot better

Not sure if this build will be factory fresh or weathered yet, looks like a lot of these A-10s had a hard life.

Big leap forward last night basically because the wings and engines are just OTB so not many parts.
I could do nothing with the join below the HUD so trimmed it down and have added a very thin bit of plastic sheet.
Once its set i will trim and shape it. this may be a better way of doing things in the future as even if the fuselage fits together well i often find the instrument console might not as the edges of the plastic at the join seem to be less sharp

There is a large amount of PE to add to the exterior, mostly panels but i wonder if this PE is to thick to just glue on top of the plastic .
i need to study some pictures t see if these panels really do sit proud of the surface.

It is from shooting the gun. There is a lot of black soot that comes from that thing and if the wind catches wrong and that is sucked into the engines it can and has done engine shut downs.

I had a look at a couple of walk rounds and some of the access panels do indeed stick out proud by a thickness of metal so i am going ahead with the PE.

You can see here Bottom right and left that these panels are indeed proud....

You know that very well could be battle damage patches. They have been shot at for about 20 years now. :frantic:

I didn't read all this thread thuroughly, but dents in the nose would not, should not be from refueling. As my time in the AF as a "Load Toad" (weapons) remembers, if you dinged a bird your hinney was smoked. Shouldn't this be battle damage, doesn't seem right from my perspective. Article 15 and you're out! Though I have no clue as to the dent's origins, it's a bit odd, IMHO, but the pic doesn't lie.

I'm enjoying the build, regardless!

P.S. I didn't load these birds, but did get a chance to pin one at EOR at Happy Holloman AFB. What an incredible invention, HA!

The interesting thing about this picture is rather than highlighting the panel lines as dark they are actually the cleanest areas of the fuselage if you zoom in on the underside
