Eindecker IV

You know I was just thinking, I wonder if you could simulate the Engine turning by doing what is really done. Get a dremel or slow motor tool. Use the erasers for mechanical pencils. These ones are 4mm but if you chuck it I bet they could be filed or sanded down smaller. Paint the cowl old aluminum and then clear coat it. Take the checked eraser and dip it in a puddle of bright aluminum or chrome (need to experiment) and then dab almost dry. Fire up the drill and then lightly touch to the cowl. It should grind in the new colour I think and give you that jeweling effect.
I'll have to try this and see how it goes.

I tried that a couple of different ways James. I used a fine point burnisher, the lines were too thin and wasn't quite as polished. I thought using Model Masters buffering metalizer could do it with a rubber tip brush but thought about how fragile that finish is. I got a coat of Alclad Aqua clear on this and by the time I get a layer or two of weathering on this it should deminish a bit. Not much on the cowling but behind and on the fuselage should show some staining.
 
@jknaus you were worried about the model of the Spandau guns on this. As it turn out it will take some butchering to make them fit so i'm using the kit guns, which still require some modification. These Gaspatch guns are just to nice to hide under a cowling. I'll use them on the DIIV or DrI later.

Now to rig the control lines going back to the rudder and elevator and seal up the fuselage. it's gonna be tricky because there's a seam that runs down the top, I didn't get it cleaned up as well as it should have been on the earlier Eidnecker, can't turn a blind eye to this one.
 
So last Sprue Bro order I looked at some alternate rigging stuff. Found this.

Uh...yeah. .068 is a wee bit thin for rigging 1:32 planes.

And oh, I should have known better. I do not have to modify the kit parts for the guns. There was another set of guns for the IV version that snap right in. Always follow the instructions :smack:
 
I thought I would Warren but this stuff is way way thinner than the fishing line i'm using already. And as elastic as it is it's not going to add any strength when I get to the wings. They have other thicknesses and even material. I think one of the mediums is very rigid.

I actually got some and tested it. Could not get tension on it enough to straighten it out. wasn't very forgiving. It would work for a lot of stuff in modeling but not rigging biplanes imho.
