Sd.Kfz 221 in Chinese Service

Hey Every one,

This is My 1st. post here in the "Construction" forum. What I have here is a kit from Bronco(CB-35022) Sd.Kfz 221 in Chinese Service. This was a dream to put together. The kit built like a Tamiya , with all the Detail & x-tras of a Dragon kit! :woohoo: It comes with a Full interior minus the Engine. :( Also when the Germans shipped th 221 they did not ship it with it's customary M.G.34. They sent them th M.G. 13 ,a left over from WW I .

The 221 was painted with Tamiya German Grey on th Exterior & a Tamiya Buff + White for the ElfinBein Interior, and Tamiya's RLM Grey(XF-22) for the Floor. The exterior has been given a Pinwash of Lamp Black. The Interior was given a Pinwash of Burnt Umber & Dry brushed with Unbleached Titanium.Migments of European Dust( although the Car is in China !) were used to Dirty up the Interior, before I closed her up.

The Grenade Screens had their Hinges scratch built. I nicked a set of hinges from Griffon's German Panther Rear Stowage Boxes. I had screwed up th boxes & couldn't use them, so th hinges were just sittin' there on the Fret. They are workable. Bronco would have you just glue the screens on the Leading Edge of the Turret to show it open :X I also scratch built the Interior parts of the Head lights with a piece of .5mm brass wire with a lil' "bulb" of super glue to act as the Filament. I also have still to give this "Perl of the Orient" an All over exterior Weathering Job. That will come soon enough !!

Enjoy & before any one says anything , those are stray Bristles from My brush on th exterior of th 221. I didn't realize it until after I had set th pix.

Here are the "Bat Wings " with P.E. hinges made with .3mm wire for th hinge pins.&.8mm wire for the grab handles.

Here was a cool addition. These are tiny springs that go under th Commanders seat for a nice Comfortable Ride !!

Incase you were wondering just how small these springs are. Here is th seat mounted to a 20oz bottle cap. ! :woohoo:

Any Questions just let it rip !!

Talk to ya soon,

Hi Erik!

Very Interesting subject. I think the build is very nice and clean.

One suggestion (and maybe you thought about it already) but because the 221 has a lot of straight plates at different angles, if you do a slight modulation of the surfaces before you apply the weathering to the exterior you should get a more impressive result. I think the contrast will make it look much better. ;)

that's both - unusual and cool looking!

good job erik!

will you put it in a small dio? maybe with a panzer 1a in chinese markings?

After my own heart, springs, solder, brass!!! I have to agree with Dave, maybe at least some filtering to break up the paint scheme. Thanks for sharing Erik.

Hey Erik, nice clean build. Great close ups of the seat and springs.

Now I build mostly Olive drab stuff but I do have a huge soft spot for these little armored cars. Nice to hear it fell together well, I have eyed this one a few times here and there.

Great job.

KEN,

This whole 221 Franchise from Bronco is Awesome. another Club member has build the most recent one with th Anti-Tank rifle in th turret.

I have hit it with some of MIG's Faded Panzer Grey , But I will take your advise on the Weathering. I agree it needs something to break up th Panels !!

Thanx for th Kind Words !!

ERIK

DAVE,

I agree with ya'. Some Modulation and a lil' more Dry brushing to fade & Break up th panel lines !!

Thanx for th kind words

ERIK

Thanx again Everyone for th Kind Words ! I plan to add some of the Warriors Chinese figures to it & place the 221 in a Vignette. On a Recon Mission !

Yee-Hah !! Let's Go Roottin' Chinese Style, Man ....

I've finished Weathering it. It was Dry Brushed with MIG productions Faded Panzer Grey, a Lamp Black pin wash. I also used ModelMakerZ Asian Dirt mixed with Liquitex Matte Gel to get th Mud & I added some Future to th Mud puddle. Sorry for Photobucket MOONIE, Time was a factor & I guess I wanted to get this up   ! The Grass is from Hudson & Allen & the flowers are from the Dried section of Michael's Craft store

I don't know what' more impressive, that model or you found this thread.

@ :mpup - Hahahaha ! Right ! Never discount th Search feature Here !! That's how I found it. :D I was even surprised that it was that Old ! I didn't realize that I'd been coming here for that long !! (y)

@ JAMES - This is an Awesome Kit. I highly recommend it ! The Whole 221 franchise from Bronco is Awesome. Supremely engineered. The Wheels that come in this Kit - Th Slide Molded ones have the injection points on the inside of the Tire - i.e. No Ejector pin marks & Flawless Tread pattern !! The upper & lower hulls went together seamlessly with out even glueing them. I ended up gluing it together, but as a pre-fit the seam between th two vanished when I dry fit them !!

Thanx for th kind words.

MOONIE- Any reason th photobucket pix from earlier are missing ?

the first pictures are in HTML code and not BBCode. That's all the support I can give on photobucket, you know we have our own photogallery system that everyone are more than welcome to make us of... :D :mpup

Yes, I am aware of M.A.'s gallery & I Dig it, I was just pushed for time & I guess not patient enough to load these recent pix in. I will from now on !! :D :D
