I had one reference from a RC guy in the UK who said the rear ones were red (not that they worked as brake lights) and the cylinder was an intercom jack, so I ran with that.

It looks awesome and works great too! I just am pointing out for anyone who may see this and base their rear light on the kit.

Postwar upgrades used the intercom button in place of the light.

Here, from my walk around sets, we see that it is a call button on this example:

That's the location of it on the Tamiya kit of both the call button and light.

I ended up boxing the backend of the light housings with brass. I've seen a bunch of examples with different mountings, especially the JS-2 with the side armor, but the bottom line for me was the LEDs are so bright that light bled through the housings, even when I used black Aves. I wasn't confident that paint would do any better and would either have to make them oversized or redo them and I certainly was not going to redo them.

Once again, I reached into my wallet for that overused artistic license...

Overall the Tamiya kit is fantastic. The welds they worked into it are some of the best I've ever come across, but left off the really crude ones. I can understand it, it's a beauty, just not accurate to what seems to be a more common example of what was pouring out of the Russian factories.
