British trucks

Well-known member
I have been pondering a diorama....dont laugh  either North Africa or Italy 1942 onwards but initial searches show over a dozen German trucks but nothing British in 1/35 ??? unless you know better???
Any thoughts ?

There are a few British trucks out Paddy. The old Peerless Max Bedford QL. It was re released by Italeri. The Chevi 15CWT is out and in resin there are all sorts from Matadores on. Tamiya makes the Tilly. AFV is comeing out with the DORCHESTER ACV and LZ models makes 15CWT trucks with their new one a C15A Water Tank Lorry. Hope that is of some use.

Thanks James, according to Hannants they list the Bedford QLT, QLB and QLR as coming soon from IBG models who ever they are :)
The Airfix/Revell/Italeri kit is sold out everywhere in the UK.
No rush anyway, just thinking out loud with dio plans :)

How about Tamiya's venerable still awesome Quad Gun Tractor? I was always amazed by it's odd shape back when I was a kid.

Yea that might have to do. I was hoping to find a canvas back truck like this

http://www.mvt-essex.org.uk/members_pages/ct.htm

I had no idea that British equip was given the US star on D-Day !! I'm new to trucks :)

IBG is a Russian company if I remember. Everyone got the start for invasion Europe. It was so they could be easily identified. Not everyone liked the idea. A lot of Canadian vehicles had the star painted on cockeyed in defiance. Darned Colonials :rotf
James

I bet that star came off the British stuff again pretty quick when no one was looking !! You can understand why they did it but invasion stripes on aircraft was a better idea. Cant see the RAF ditching the roundel for the star :) Then again...We Brits know all about US "friendly" fire ;)

Thats the one chuk thanks. I have set an alert on Ebay for one. They still do it with a 25lb gun but its £30 !! at least i know now they exist :)

I just got the Mirror Models C15TA, by LZ Models, and it is quite nice. As for IBG, International Business Group of Warsaw, Poland, their vehicles have been a bit crude in details.

Regards,

Hey Paddy, I'm not far away from starting the Italeri QL portee - looking forward to it too :)

Also, in my stash I have a PlusModels Ford WOT3 truck in resin ............I'm saving it for when I grow up to be a big modeler (it scares me :eek:hmy: )

Happy truck hunting Paddy :)

Many thanks to everyone for their help here. Looks like its all out there if you know where to look. some of it is discontinued and some in resin, Most of it is very old..but its all there if you look hard enough (y)

Don't forget the Tamiya LRDG Chevy Truck. There are some nice styrene figure sets to complement it now including the Master Boz Commonwealth figure set with the dromedary and rider.

Cheers

Heres one Paddy.

I didn't know that Airfix ever did 1/35 armour. I thought their large kits were 1/32. I wonder if they like another company just reboxed 1/32 kits and called them 1/35? There is quite a difference in size between the old Monogram 1/32 M-3 Lee and the Tamiya 1/35 M-3 Lee.

Cheers

The airfix Bedford is now boxed as Italeri but also did a stint in a Revell box as well.
I'm watching it James thanks :)

Unless I missed it I didn't see this one listed

C15A Lorry

Bit pricy and I have not heard of Mirror Models.

They are an offshoot of LZ models.Should be very nice if the resin is any example. The will come out with a number of trucks with the newest being a CT15 water Lorrie. The one I really want should be out soon, an Otter.

a quick warning to anyone looking for a LRDG command car. there are several on E-Bay listed as very rare and out of production and buy it now for £60 +

I now find its on limited re issue with a gun for £27 new....do your research :)

I have six of the Tamiya LRDG truck kits without the Breda Gun. I do have one of Italeri's 20 mm Breda Gun kits and I think it's the same gun as is in the new Tamiya release.

The 20 mm Breda gun used by the LRDG was most often mounted in the bed of the truck and the gun was belt fed.

A nice thing about the LRDG kit now is that you can replace that Lewis gun with a STYRENE Vickers from Dragon's British Expeditionary Force figure set.

Master Box has a set of styrene LRDG figures http://www.mbltd.info/3598.htm and is working on another North African British troops set that will have a Vickers gun in it.
