Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

20240823_201658.jpg

I have coveted this kit since her 2017 release. I found a loop-hole in my "No Chinese Model kits" mantra and I allowed myself to finally buy this from an American seller. This kit fills a gap in my flat-top collection. Now, if Brandon Lowe will get off his ass and finish the 1/700 Blue Ridge Models USS Charger AVG-30, the collection will be complete.

Gary I got your package of dirt and rocks! :rotf

No seriously, I really appreciate you donating some really special material to me. I was talking to Eric at lunch the other day about how I talk a big game about bases and never get them done.

I mean earth from Bastogne, sand from Jordan and stone from Stoumont! ok I don't know what Stoumont is but I know you really thought a lot of it all to first collect then ship to me for us. I'll most definitely use this material in some upcoming builds.

Thank you sir! :salute: :mpup

Your, welcome! Stoumont, Belgium, is one of those places where the Battle of the Bulge took place. The pebbles are great for making a wall. I had a patient whose father was a Bulge veteran, and he asked for some of the Basone dirt to place on his dad's grave as this battle always affected him. I also had a nurse coworker who wanted to do the same for the same reason. So, for some people the dirt is sort of sacred. The dirt and pepples were given to me by a doctor friend of mine who did his training in Belgium and was hooked on the battle. The sand was gotten for me by a coworker who is from there and was on vacation. My overseas travel was courtesy of Uncle Sam 55 years ago. Gary S.

While I wait for this masterpiece to be produced, I placed an order for six Arma Hobby kits (on their way).

To have something to compare it to, especially since it isn't a P-51D-3 without the dorsal fin for this scheme,

Winging its way to me tomorrow will be this...
I was looking at the original Tamiya version but they were about £400 0n the collectors market as very rare now. Its another one of those kits i built years ago but never quite got it beat ( i think you say over there ?) or did it justice as we say over here :) Anyway i noticed the 2nd hand price now is tumbling as people settle for the meng version. The Tamiya is now about £250-300 with shipping then i saw this meng at £106 with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else wants £150 so i have grabbed one of these while they have the price wrong :) or are just giving them away at break even ?
My go to car parts place is in France called Spotmodel https://www.spotmodel.com/ and they are going to do a detail up set launching in November so i will wait and see what thats like before i do anything with the model itself.
The tamiya version was very dependent on the top studio upgrade set which could easily add £200+ to the overall cost so i will se how much the spot model upgrade is. It may sound a lot but if you start buying carbon fiber decals sheets, Marlborough decal sheets (as meng will not include the tobacco sponsor logos), wiring connectors brake lines, PE brake discs and so on its easy to clock up £200 anyway.

When i built the Tamiya version i didnt want to keep it so put it on e-bay and got all my money back and sold it to Maclaren themselves who are based about 20 miles from me :)

We are starting to get withdrawal symptom now Steve, we will need another figure hit from you soon mate :)

Love Spotmodel. 🥰

They were where I got my dirty mitts on a SimilR Matech Ford GT (GT1) when they were impossible to find in the US. If they did turn up, they were pushing well north of $300.....for a 1/24! I've not looked, they price may have come down by now, as I know they did end up doing a second run later on.

3D printing will put a lot of scratchbuilders to the yard.
Resin 2 Detail, newly designed R-2600, bought for my ever waiting Havocs:

Reskit for my AH-1G but, the sand shields are missing. I was informed that they will be included in a later release so I will have to make my own for this one:

note the defect but, I am not sending this back to Ukraine, especially since it is on the bottom of the part. I will simply make a new nut for it:

What was that you said about scratch-builders?!

I guess it didn't translate well in my sleepy head! Looking it up in the modern day vernacular, I should have posted out to pasture.

Anyway, I'm expecting a package with six kits from Arma Hobby tomorrow.
