Writing on a tablet sucks. Stupid auto correct. Rodeo should be Roden.
4 times to write this :bang head

Get yourself a bluetooth keyboard James. Then turn off the autocorrect. (I hate it even when doing the screen text) My only problem ends up being the typo monster.

Just a figure of speech, LOL! My Sainted Grandfather told me a tale of his service in WWI France- he got hold of a couple of German steel helmets somehow. Someone told him they were bulletproof, so he tested that theory and shot them full of holes! That's always tempered the term for me. ;)

I finally got this Ebay win in. Had pondered for a very long while about weather I wanted to get one or not. Finally decided to go for it. This one was about 2/3 of what I would have paid getting it any other way and waited until the last minute to go for it.

For my old VW friend Jack Foley, who was a flight engineer and pilot in the US Navy during WW2. He flew PBY's and took out submarines. I am going to build this beast up hopefully in the not too far future. While I believe he actually flew PBY-3 or PBY-4 it will be a tribute build as those versions are not available and I have no real info on his actual plane.

It is a very complex and highly detailed kit. Will probably put the Arizona and Falcon to shame on time required to build it, but well worth it I believe.

With a little help from the Dew, I am a bit excited about obtaining this kit.

Thats one I really want but too expensive and too much for me now. Will enjoy the build blog though.

I saw some figures on another forum and decided to try them. Its a Chinese company and sculptor and they are quite good. The Russian tankers came in standard little cardboard boxes well protected in a baggy in a bubble wrap bag.
Very nice casting. The WWII Russian Pilot is well done and came in a very nice metal case embedded in foam on all sides.
Also going to try this airbrush lubricant. Anyone used it before?

Yeah, I know James. Was a bite even though it was a bit less than retail. The positive thing is that it cost less than the B-17 with all it's AM goodies.

I will probably be contacting HPH though about a couple of window parts. One of the blisters has a funky dimple in the middle of a big round pane. Not sure if I am going to use the kit engines or order 2 Vector engines. Just saying the crankcases aren't round but oval shaped on the 2 R-1830 engines.

While the fuselage and wings are all warp free, almost all the thin bulkhead and former sheets are curved a bit. Not really an issue as a pot of water heated to 170-180 degrees F, dip part til slightly soft and lay flat on something with some VERY soft foam rubber on top pressing down to flatten it till it cools. Nothing scary or difficult just takes some time.

On a positive note, I did FINALLY find some R-2600 engines in 1/32 to replace the garbage ones in the HK B-25 kit I have. (nope Vector does not make any in that scale) These are made by HPH as aftermarket items too. We will see if they are any good here real soon.

As to the Needle Juice, I tried it and ended up using nothing at all or good old Vaseline on the screw threads on my Badger Krome. Then again, my bottle of oil is quite a number of years old. Oh, and hope you get to feeling better James! :zen

Needle Juice works really well, I use it everytime I clean the airbrush and it feels like brand new.

Crips all Mighty Paul, that's one big bird! (y)

Yeah, that it is. In my yoot[sup]1[/sup] I built the Revell 1/72 Memphis Belle, Dam Buster Lancaster, and then the PBY Black Cat in that order. Each one was larger than the last to my yootful surprise.

It will be a job to build, but looks to be fairly well engineered. Not sure if I will be able to build it on just the landing gear but have some ideas on things to do to help that.

I suspect this kit is another that gets bought and languashes in the stash for many. I am reaching a point where I need to disperse some of my stash to other worthy builders. Don't have the time or inclination to build a lot of what I aquired over the years. I am also becoming more selective with my acquisitions these days. :hmmm

If you have a 1/350 TOS Enterprise you may part with, I'd be interested. :D
