Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

I finally got this Ebay win in. Had pondered for a very long while about weather I wanted to get one or not. Finally decided to go for it. This one was about 2/3 of what I would have paid getting it any other way and waited until the last minute to go for it.

For my old VW friend Jack Foley, who was a flight engineer and pilot in the US Navy during WW2. He flew PBY's and took out submarines. I am going to build this beast up hopefully in the not too far future. While I believe he actually flew PBY-3 or PBY-4 it will be a tribute build as those versions are not available and I have no real info on his actual plane.

It is a very complex and highly detailed kit. Will probably put the Arizona and Falcon to shame on time required to build it, but well worth it I believe.

With a little help from the Dew, I am a bit excited about obtaining this kit.

Beautiful kit Paul!! I have often thought about getting this myself but have decided to stick with 1/48. I still have 2 in the stash to build anyway!

Look forward to your build when the time comes!!!

Picked these up for my next project..not sure if i will use them but they look nice :) My problem with these tiny pe bits is sticking them in place without getting glue everywhere :)

I'm going to give it a go MP, they recomend it on the instructions, super glue works but you have to get everything in the right place first time and thats not going to happen :)

There is a trick I have discovered to applying small amounts of CA precisely. (yeah, this means ANOTHER TOOL TIME) You guys do like them right?

In fact I might make a couple of the CA applicator platforms and applicators for CTA3 prizes. I have enough junk sapphire crystals to do it. :hmmm

Paddy I have had some luck applying the decal and when dry placing the Bezel over top. Hold it with a tooth pick and apply a drop of Future or equivalent into it. This gives you the glass and glues the pe in place. Before that I had good luck smearing a little bit of thick CA onto the piece (you need very little) and then when dry applying some extra thin CA to it to keep it in place. To tell the truth I find the Future the easiest and it does 2 purposes in one go.

One of those get it while you can deals Paddy. As to having enough room, need to make some by getting rid of some kits I probably won't be building. Though now being a confirmed batchelor and having no war dept. to give me grief makes life a little easier.

Currently I have a large ship 3 ft long by about 8 inches wide I am working on, and of course the gigantic Falcon is in process. The bottom hull of it is setting on my coffee table, but no one bothers it. :D

+1 but make sure you painted the bezel beforehand (I use a semi-gloss, or crackle, spray can of black). If adding more PE, also consider Gator's Grip Acrylic Hobby Glue by our own Kenny Loup:

By the way, I gave myself an early birthday gift:

Definitely worth the $73USD (shipped) spent!

Hi Saul. I was looking for another book on amazon.CA and saw them there so picked them up. Didn't get to the shop you mentioned although I still want to take a look.

Nice stuff James.

Curious. What do you use the sonic cleaner for. My wife has one for her jewelry. Maybe I'll borrow it? :)

Also, the book on Rare cars. Are those German cars? And who is the publisher?

Hi Bob. I use mine to clean my air brush's. Every couple of uses I pull them apart and put them through 3 or 4 cycles. Amazing what can be found in a clean brush. My wife will throw her jewelry in at well occasionally. My old cleaner is a bit small although everything fit fine and the lid is broken on it so when I saw this one it was a must have. Especially since it can heat the water. Before I just used very hot tap water.

The other thing I use it for is to clean the resin and 3D printed parts if they aren't too fragile. I have found it very good at removing the oils and the wax.

I generally use mine for cleaning resin. I'll run the airbrush through from time to time but now I got those wire brushes not so much.

I use mine for cleaning motorcycle carbs
~Today i tackled a set of four that had been left for 20 years with fuel in. during that time petrol/Gas returns to its crude oil state ( well nearly)

This stuff is like toffee but with the right cleaner fluid in the tank and @90 degree centigrade this gunge will dissolve

Now i know this is not what you are thinking of doing with an ultrasonic cleaner but i thought you might like to see what they can do if big enough and with the correct fluids. :)
