Dragon StuG III Complete!

Dragon StuG III Schurzen Mit No Pantzen!

Thank you all who commented, I appreciate it! Today, I set out to build some schurzen for this beast. I'm not going to keep it tidy, it may in fact get ugly. I dug up some different sets left over from past builds and found a really old Eduard (yes, Eduard)set I bought from John's Hobbies way back when. :eek:ldguy I decided to go with the Eduard so I wouldn't have to scratch build the brackets.

Nothing high tech about this, just pliers, tweezers and a sharp knife. That's a scrap piece of acrylic I snagged from work, bought a 6" x 36" piece for a quarter!

Looking closely, you can see where the bends need to be made. Trim the part, files the edges and bend them with the tweezers and pliers. B)

I pinned one side of the bracket with my downward pressure tweezers to get it where it needed to be, carefully bent the bracket up and applied a drop of Dr Mike's Glue. I held the bracket in the glue until it set, removed the downward pressure and repeated the process on the other side.

Top brackets done!

I assembled the lower brackets and installed them in the same manner.

Here's a quick shot of the rough draft.

I broke the glue joint on the hanger, had to reglue it but everything will get chipped etc, so the touch up should not show up.

I took a few minutes to paint the spare track stowage rack, I slid it up slightly and masked the hull with a piece of paper to spray the color.

Much easier than brush painting them. Again, more painting to go. That's about it for today's endeavors, thanks for coming by!

that would have been a perfect chance to try the battery charger resistance soldering solution, the PDF is on the internet..what could have gone wrong? :facepalm

Nice work Mike. :dude

Dragon StuG III Paint Bench Upgrade 2.0 12-9-16

Well, the vacation has been quite welcome, but is flying by! I have been working around the house getting ready for Christmas and bought myself a little gift. This is the original paint bench I've been using since we moved down here 11 years ago.

It's a wonder anything good came off this bench as dark as it was! I decided it was time to light things up, so I bought one of these while it was the Employee Appreciation Sale Days at the local store.

I have a similar setup at the inside bench, so I just made another scaffold from 1x6 and 1x4 to hold it up and allow me to get the power strip up off the floor, resulting in a much cleaner application and a switch I can reach!

The zip ties are temporary, just wanting to mock it all up and see how it works. So here's the result.

Same camera setting, much improved! I had to rearrange a few things to accommodate the new stuff, but I think it's going to be an improvement. If you're interested, let me know and I can provide more details on the structure.

Thanks guys, it will be nice to have more light out there. B)

Test fitting junk for the trunk. I built a brass bucket from RB Model, added a lead wire handle instead of their flat one, Value Gear stowage pieces and some Tamiya jerry cans and fuel barrel.

The Tamiya jerry cans were missing a handle, so I added one from copper wire. I've got more stuff to go back there, just sort of playing Tetris to see what fits and looks right. What do you think?

I'm absolutely no authority in these sort of things, however on a visual level, I'm not sure about the barrel, Mike. I'm sure there's a tonne of photo's that prove they were carried but I'd swap it out for a couple of ammo cases or a tarp or two.

Just my two penn'arth and definitely not a criticism.

Ian.
