1/96 scale USS Constitution build.

Complex and purposeful simultaneously.
Listen now. Hush. Can you hear Isaac Hull's applause?
It's a sarcastic applause from Captain Hull, cause it's taken me longer to build a 3ft model than it did to make the real one 🙃

The National parks website says " One of these warships, USS Constitution, was built at Hartt's shipyard in the North End of Boston. Construction began in 1794 and Constitution launched on October 21, 1797. The ship sailed its first cruise the next year as the Quasi-War with France emerged. Later it served in engagements with pirates off the Barbary Coast in the Mediterranean."
You're handily ahead of the original 4-year build schedule.
Captains Samuel Nicholson, Steven Decatur and Isaac Hull are all applauding your devotion and skill. Sir.

Cool!

If you fancy a read the book Six Frigates is quit excellent. It covers the construction and history of the original six boats including the Conny.

Outstanding! I can't remember the last time I saw a more realistic looking model ship! :tens:

Will your big "Old Ironsides" have cannon port hatches?

Thanks Rhino!
According to some writing, in the early years the Constitution didn't have hinged gunport lids. The model that the crew (War of 1812) built for Captain Hull doesn't have them. I decided to do mine likewise.

I never doubted your Constitutional authenticity for a second!

Well, I'm all over the place, as far as how the ship looked at any one time in history. For example, the kit's channel deadeye bent rod style "chain" plates were terrible so I went with the single strap style which was added a bit later than 1812. A lot of info I built my "Connie" on is based on reading, but even that can be wrong. For example, in this pic of the Isaac Hull model (built in 1812) by the sailors of the ship you can see that the top deck has

cannonades rather than carronades. I used info that stated they were carronades in 1812. However you can see there isn't hinged port lids.

I meant to add my following post with the Peabody Museum pic here. Instead I added it to the build thread. I haven't even broke out the rum bottle yet either 🙃
