Revell FW-190- A8 "Sturmbock" 1/32

As I have a couple of the engine kits, I will have to remember this length issue.
And that is why we do these blogs, forewarned is forearmed (or something like that ) :) its what my mum used to call "doing your dirty washing in public"
At the moment i am planning to build the over trees' i got from the local model shop for free as an OTB comparison and as an ongoing part of this blog.

How often have i finished a build and said, if i did that again i could do a better job ? well now's my chance to do just that. (and prove myself wrong ) ;-) There are some parts i didnt use here like the fabric flap decals because i should have fitted them before i built the wings, my mistake so i will use them on the OTB build.

Off topic but i was looking at a BF109 to go with this on the shelf , the web says go for the Trumpeter as its the best, whats interesting is its also boxed as the Hobby2000 and the HGW and cyber hobby and the prices vary from £35 to £105
 
There are a number of BF109 kits Paddy. I have a number of the Eduard 1/32 scale Bf109 E kits. One is set to do the engine, cockpit and all that with the Brassin sets. Several others have some nice aftermarket resin kits to convert to the V-14, a B-1 conversion, a C-D conversion, and a conversion from a G-6 to a Spanish built HA-1112, with a few other variants in there.
 
I suspect the problem is that although the eduard engine is made for the Revell A8 they made the engine correct and the Revell fuselage is 2mm short. I can see just by looking that the Revell engine reduction gear housing is much shorter than the Eduard version. If i do as planned and go straight into an OTB build i will be able to compare
I always say to the average modeller like me the aftermarket sets are a compromise. The very best modellers should be able to make something of them. The instrument consoles from Eduard and Kits World i got bear little resemblance to the real thing and seem to have been made "busy" to look good. Nearly all the Eduard 190 engines you see on the web are shown fully displayed because you couldn't fit the covers, the engine dia is simply to big, I had to take the valve cover boxes off 2 cylinders just to get side covers on to mount the front ring :) I suppose that as long as the butchering of the butcher bird is not seen then the final outcome will display as intended. Still hurts when you build an engine and then have to start cutting it about in the hope it wont be seen.

I have checked the engine mount frame work and it is identical to the Eduard item, i did wonder if i could shorten that a bit to move the engine back but the whole engine cowling on this aircraft is tapered so as the engine goes back the dia of the covers reduces.

the engine itself is 55mm long if the reduced it by just 4% over all it would be perfect on length and 1mm less on Dia... Problems solved :)

Ditto! This is why it takes me 2 kits sometimes to get one build out.

Can't speak for the Trumpy 109, don't have one unless that one I got from @jknaus is one. Can't recall the brand off the top of my head. He sent all sorts of goodies with it. I've done two 1:32 109s building up to this one cause I want to do it right.
 
These are the basic colours, dont quite look right to me but they may look better with weathering and a flat coat
this RLM75/82 and 76 underside.
When i have practiced a bit more with the airbrush i will give it measles as well :)

not proud of it but i suppose its the finished item that matters. I'm sure Paul or someone of his level could do a better job and find a work around. All things are feasible :)

I don't know about measles, but this reputedly helps with another "Skin disorder". :yipee:
