Much work to do still on the tunic as the base color has been painted so that I can now begin the shading, highlighting and "wool effects" using pointillism techniques. Pointillism is a painting technique in this particular application of using small "dots" of varying tones of the primary color (in this case Horizon Blue) to achieve a realistic worn/wool effect. I use a good quality brush that is past it's prime and begin with a tone that is darker than the base coat. The paint is thinned out and then you begin to apply the dots to the uniform in a random pattern keeping the darker tones in the shadow areas. You then continue to lighten the tone as you progress to the highlighted areas. I think that I will film a LC-TV video ( http://shop.lastcavalry.com/lctv/ ) on this because it's much easier to explain if you can actually see the technique in-progress. I will let you know when it filming and editing is completed. I also use this on helmets, leather etc... Thanks for the great feedback!!

Tom - it is actually done with acrylics. I only use oils when I paint horses now...

Andy - I think that it works great in all scales. You just have to actually increase the contrast on smaller scales to 'em "pop"!!!
