WNW DH9a WIP"UPDATE #17""FINI"

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #12"

Havent touched anything in days Terry. Got to get my act in gear.
James

I've been watching "Flyboys". There's a really great shot of a guy standing on the wing of Gotha adding oil to a engine in flight. You could have that job.

:gogo

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #12"

AS you probably know, up to WW II some multi engined planes had access tunnels through the wings to get to the engines during flight.
Wonder if they drew straws to see who was going in there...:pilot Ahem, I'm busy flying this thing...

Yeah you either get cooked or frozen. You can still keep that job.

:blink

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #12"

Glad I missed it. As my luck runs I probably would have drawn the short one.

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #12"

I think that would be a fabrication in flyboys. Nowhere to store the oil and they used a ladder to get in the pit, dont think you could hop up from the wing. As for other aircraft it would be the Flight Engineer. From what I've read the tunnels where tiny. I know from crawling a wing tank on an Aurora how cramped that can be and I think I'd take a pass. No matter what you have to applaud the courage of the early aviators.

On that note most crews didnt like the oxegyn system on the Gotha and used a flask of brandy instead.

Think I could have learned to enjoy the brandy. Good to get you warm and also help with the courage part. :drinks

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #12"

Wow I didn't know the Gotha had a oxygen system. Again learning has taken place.

Used the O2 to wake up the crew from the brandy drinkin'.

Looking good Terry! love the slight chipping on the trailing edge of the rudder.

Yep a little brandy goes a long way.

Thanks! I don't how much to weather the plane, but thought I ought to do some.

Looking great, Terry! Still waiting on Betty though! :D

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #13"

Mike one plane at a time. The DH9 is beginning to look more like a plane. I have completed and added the top wing to the model(a lot of struts to line up). The under carriage has been added and the tail skid. The main work however has been adding the rigging. I am nowhere near done with the rigging, but work on this is about to begin in ernest. I know that turn buckels can be purchased, but I desided to make my own. Getting ready to add the rigging has taken the most time so far. That is I have been making my own eyelets to connect the rigging to the plane. Don't ask how many there are. Needless to say there's a bunch. Here are some pictures of how she looks as of today. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Outstanding Terry,

The cockpit is detailed very nicely! It should be killer when finished!

Yes we did! I love the rigging Terry, Looks great! Does the forward fuselage remain that color, or.... ?

Bob

Yep it stays battleship grey. Hopefully weathered a little better.

Re: WINGNUT WINGS DH9a WIP"UPDATE #13"
