Sturmtiger build

Hi hood,

Very nice build/paint/weathering job! This is one wierd (and scary) looking contraption: I had to look it up on the net to understand how it worked

- initially I thought that it was some kind of gigantic self-propelled mortar, what with the immense caliber of it's main gun! :eek:hmy:

But then I found out that it was really a rocket launcher, meant primarily for attack: cool concept. But it seems it went into action a bit too late in the war, when the Germans were on a more defensive role, using the Sturmtiger exactly how you depicted your's, in an ambush configuration.

Congrats for such an awesome job with great attention to detail!

Thanks Erik,Randy,Jose and BigDog!

Erik, Yep. With the huge muzzle blast created when fired it would be something to see in color!

Randy, This is going to be depicticed as a lone wolf (tiger) I'm thinking abandoned for lack of fuel and ammo in a stark snowy/muddy setting. This was the plan from the start but I wished I would have been thinking when I glued the gun. Needed to be fixed in the lowered position to suggest this Tiger is not on the prowl anymore.

BigDog, The rocket Mortar round the Sturmtiger used was originally designed for naval use. There were 18 of these weapons produced and I'll bet when first witnessed in action it caused alot of jaw dropping :blink

HOOD,

I wonder after some firing , how much soot would build up on the Front Glasis ?? I'd like to know how they sounded & I'm sure it was a bit of a shock when these Big Kitties first went into Combat !!

Here's what I've come up with for the base so far. A simple snow scene. This is my first attempt at working with "snow" and as I thought the camera does'nt like it. I'll have to play with the lighting.
Btw, the last closeup pic of the fence post let me know that I needed to had the staple's holding the fence to the post.

Thanks Guys!

Luiz, I thought of ya while I was tossing the snow. No Sea Lions in the Ardennes though:lol:

KABLAMOOOO....just adding audio to the vidio clip.

I used baking soda for the snow. It's not as (dusty) as baby powder. The first layers were sprinkled on the base as the ground itself was still saturated with a 50/50 white glue and water mix. Then the snow and ground (dirt) was sculpted together to get some of the dirt mixed with snow on the pathway and I added the weeds along the fence row, the track marks were added at this time too. After everything had set over night I started building up the powder layers on the tank and the base by sprinkling more snow, sticking it with hairspray. Once everything was done I permanently set it with dullcoat.

I don't know if this is how it's done but thats how I did it.
