Phil

Active member
Shortly Dave the Chef and myself will be building this kit together, if you have one and want to join in please feel welcome to do so.

No time frame, I will be doing this between other builds currently going.

The build is for He 219's only

We are both doing the same version with a different paint method to achieve the unique camo pattern.

This is the 1997 Tamiya kit, made in the Philippines.

No Terry, any kit of the He 219 will fit :drinks

He 219 A-0
Initially used for pre-production aircraft but became first major production version with 1,750 PS DB 603A engines, 104 built as of 30 November 1944,[16]

He 219 A-1
Proposed reconnaissance-bomber aircraft; project abandoned

He 219 A-2
Similar to A-0 but extended engine nacelles with additional fuel tanks, 1,670 PS DB 603AA engines, 85 built as of 30 November 1944 [16]

He 219 A-5
Planned three-seat night fighter, only some prototypes known to have been built from A-2 airframes

He 219 A-6
Planned Mosquito-hunter, stripped-down version of the He 219 A-2, armed with four 20 mm MG 151/20s

He 219 A-7
Improved night fighter version, powered by two 1,800 PS DB 603E engines, 210 ordered as of 30 November 1944 [16]

He 219 D-1
He 219 A-7 airframes adapted for Jumo 213E engines, five known to be delivered in 1945

I think those are all the 219 variants for a bit of a guide.

Thanks Phil!

Get them done Chris!

Well here's my kit - the same as Phil's of course but not so much PE -

Like Phil I will be doing this in between my other builds :pilot

Have this kit in my stash too. Also all filled up with official group builds, but it might be nice to work on as a "something different for a change" build. Will have to dig it out and see what all I have for it. (Got the ref books! (y) )

Have some ideas to possibly lighten the "butt" load on it. :blink

And don't forget their big brothers, Revell's He 219 A-7 and ZM's He 219 A-0.

Cheers,
Rich

Great idea - a buddy-build.... Wonder who else around here would be up-for-that ??? :hmmm

Ian.

This should be cool, i have one but too many irons in the fire right now. When it comes time for paint here's how the Smithsonian did theirs...

NASM 219 paint

So would everyone post in this thread or is everyone posting in their own threads? I might maybe want to get into this.

That's exactly how I'm doing mine OD - shrink myself Antman style and get on top of the wing with my airbrush :woohoo:

James, I say just throw the stuff into this thread for now. Perhaps if loads of us start up then Bob could open up a special He 219 SIG area and we can split the threads up?

Thanks for that link Gary! (y) I didn't know the wings were that far along. Unlike the Dornier 17 we have at least one to go look at! :geek

As to the bigger kits Revell and ZM, Had the Revell kit and sold it. While it looked "OK" I could see the giant MISS they did on the engine nacelles. Too much wrong there and I didn't want to mess with it. Granted the ZM kit is a fair chunk more cost, but also has engines and most all the extra little goodie I would have after marketed to the Revell kit.

For me a kit needs to pass the 3F test. Form, Fit, and Function. The Revell kit failed on the form side and as there is another available in the same scale, it went bye, bye.

Will dig my Tamiya kit out this weekend and give it a look see. :geek
