Since I had to pull out of the Bomber build for now
I thought I would go with this SBD-3 as a substitute.
Accurate Miniatures SBD-3 of VB-3 USS Yorktown.
It is a very nice kit and I think I will enjoy it immensely. Here are the previews....

Re: 1/48 scale AM SBD-3 Dauntless

I have come to find out that this kit isn't a get done over night type of kit. It took me nearly two hours to paint and detail the ip and get some of the flight deck assembled. I then assembled the fuse and put the gunner R/O station in and thew pilots office. The fuse went together and I doubt Ill have to sand any of it because it is so flush. I am really liking this kit.
well here are a couple of pics that may show my madness...

Agreed...I love these kits...they are a treat to build! I only have two more in the stash. If you enjoyed this, you should treat yourself to one of their Avenger kits next!

Re: 1/48 scale AM SBD-3 Dauntless

Paul...

I forgot to mention, being an SBD nut, I have a crapload on reference material if you ever have questions!

Re: 1/48 scale AM SBD-3 Dauntless

Thanks Mike but that's not really necessary, I have a SBD in action book already and I plan to do this one as the plane for Lt Max Leslie. I hope it comes out alright.

\I spent the better part of the day fighting the fuse and wing assembly but I got it whipped in about 5 hours by reading the instructions.....

Re: 1/48 scale AM SBD-3 Dauntless

Yeah...back when A-M had it's website, it had online builds of their planes that had tips on building...one had the wing assembly complete with the trailing edge unglued so you could lift it up and slide in the office assembly. I have tried building it both ways and either way works ;)

Sounds like a rough build!

Paul, I've always loved this plane, and always felt like it was some kind of minefield to walk out on. Deceptively simply, loaded with challenges- it looks like you're firmly on the right path- cheers!

Would love to see this kit get the Chuk treatment some day ;)

Paul...its looking great man...these kits take some getting used to, but there are none better in the scale IMHO...
