Hi Bob ........thanks for the rattle.
The only thing i've done similar to vines is ivy. This was made using TREEMENDUS Ivy Leaves glued to small pieces of root, vines could be made in a similar way.

I dont know how to do flowers and vines. I need to do some web research. Roof drainage is a good idea

How msny trucks do you intend to have on your diorama? Other vehicles? Figures?
Vines? Don't forget tat this was a desert. I've never seen any vines on any buildings I've seen of the L.R.D.G. although I could be wrong.

I dont know about trucks ? enough to look busy but not overcrowded. I think away from the front line there were more suberbian towns. Mostly what we see are desert villages. I am not sure, hit a bit of a brick wall at the moment with this. Major problem seems to be my Sicilian houses in Libya .... :laugh: :laugh:

Maybe try and rotate them so they not align with the sides of the base. and do you need a third house?
2 houses and the trucks and soldiers is enough i think, otherwise it will get difficult to see whats going on.

Plenty of room for blokes. I see the LRDG guys together in discussion before they set off. Once i get the base done the rest will fall into place .............i hope
About how big do you want the base to be? Small groups, even two or three, figures can go a long way to balancing a diorama. What I was wondering is how much space you'll have once the vehicles are in place. That's why I asked about the number of vehicles and the size of the base.
Another idea is to have some low bushes in the dead space.

I have found that by taping some ultra thin paper to some normal paper i can get it through the printer ok. This means i can produce 1" posters that to scale would be 35" so that's about right or near enough
I have decided that this has little choice other than to be a what if really with a nod towards Libya and Sicily. Its my first attempt so i need to experiment on ways of doing things and sticking strictly to a theme limits what i can do. I doubt that there were posters in Libya or flower pots or electricity even for lighting. I doubt there were LRDG patrols in Sicily or they needed to wear towels on their heads !! Fact is i am building for a bit of fun and to gain experience, not a factual museum piece at this stage so i need to lighten up and enjoy this rather than beating myself up over detail.. :laugh:

So in that case, you can go back and do flowerpots, electrical lines, and posters on the walls. It will be good experience and fun

Oh so it's going to be a WHAT IF type of scene. Well that opens up a whole new area of ideas. Go for it and have fun as that is what model building is supposed to be about.
You could use one of the many car kits available now to have visiting dignataries or high ranking staff visiting where the truck or trucks are. Telephone poles are great too. Itaeri makes a set as does Mini-Art if you want ready made poles and resistors. If you want three Italeri poles let me know and I'll mail them to you.

Today i was in the hardware store looking for some wood edging for my diorama base and i saw these copper end plugs for capping off water pipes. 10mm Dia. They struck me they would make great street lights so with some balsa, alloy tube and some epoxy glue as well as some "grain of rice LED's" i have a couple of street lights

One problem i have found is the limited number of figures in limited poses. I read some people use Afrika corps with British heads . I have been playing around issuing different orders to my crew..
This waste of rations was digging a hole in the middle of my parade ground !!
so now i have him filling Jerry cans :laugh:
needs a bit of fine tuning but it will work.
