Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

They all sound like great acquisitions guys! Nice! Saul, thanks for letting me know the RAF had Sabres. Now I need to find some RAF Sabre decals in 1/72 scale and build one. It might even have a sharkmouth! :D (y)

All I got so far was a small display case from a friend at Hobby Day. I do hope to go shopping soon.

EJ, thanks for reminding me that I need paints too. Another thing to add to the shopping list.

Being creative and thrifty, I make all my own labels for my glue. My old paper cutter has seen its better days so I ordered a new one on Amazon. It is a bypass guillotine cutter and the blade has a nice curve to it. I have a similar one at work. It will cut up to 25 sheets of paper and works wonderfully doubling as a sheet styrene cutter.

I've got a few things in lately. I dont remember what as I havent been in much of a modeling mood lately. Anyways this is my BIG Christmas wish. It arrived yesterday. I lucked out and got a Panther D Late in it. I already have an early A and a Late A. I hope I can get up enough oomph to build a diorama.

And its not a model but I got a nice bread maker yesterday also. Going tto go back to home made and hopefully save a few bucks.

Excellent scores James. I like the gantry crane in that kit. I have a 1/72 scale one in photo-etch that I want to find and build. Maybe soon.

Enjoy the bread maker too. There's nothing like homemade bread! :drool

From Russia with love.

Got this set from Live Resin containing 3 FN MAG(58)/L7A2/C6 Machine Guns in 1/35 scale.
It took almost two weeks to get here.
With a bit of luck I will now finally be able to finish my Fennek in Dutch service in Afghanistan.

I ran out of my favorite adhesive - a quart of Cadco plastic adhesive I got from work over 14 years ago when I retired that I used up. I also used some Ambroid Pro-Weld. It's no longer available. Neither is Tenax, both of which worked similarly OK.

So I did some research and - Turns out, the Cadco stuff, the new stuff, Pro Weld, Tenax, Flex-I-File Plast-I-Weld, MicroMark Same Stuff, well, the MSDS sheet I got show it's all the same stuff. Methylene Chloride (MC).

Plastruct Plastic Weld and Testors #3502 are Methyl Ethyl Keytone (MEK), available at the big box building supply store for $9.95 or at most any paint store like Sherwin Williams. I've used that too, it's just a little slower acting. Tamiya extra thin is Butyl Acetate (just as bad) and the extra thin quick setting is Butyl Acetate with MEK added.

I ordered a quart of this stuff (MC) on line, for $33.98 with free shipping. I know, all the safety warnings stuff. I've used this stuff at work for over 40 years and I'm still not too awful crazy in the head.

Ironically, This was shipped from the state with the most hazard warnings, California. This should last me another 15 years, by that time I'll over 90.

These two are the same kits but one has a face marking which is different from the other. However, the markings are not correct and only have been done correctly on the 32nd scale kit:

My unexpected Christmas present showed up today. I Pre-ordered it quite a while back and it showed up at work today.

I went through and took photos of all the sprues this evening. There are a LOT of sprues! The clear parts are as good as any I have seen outside of HPH resin canopies. Very clear and little to no distortion. Some parts I expect to see resin aftermarket parts. In fact some parts NEED to be replaced with some good resin aftermarket parts. The engines and superchargers are basic at best and really rather mediocre. I am sure Eduard will be releasing a Big Ed eventually and it will be a big plus for adding appropriate detail. It also looks like they planned to have some cast parts for the landing gear with detail plastic being added around them, but the kit has plastic inserts instead. As heavy as it is I will also wait for some better inserts.

I will post up a review on it later in the week. There is a lot to the kit and a lot of sprues.
