Regards,

Ah, Werner Voss whom many say was the greatest fighter pilot or WW1 based on his 48 victories, enforced leave during 'Bloody April 1917 (when the Red Baron scored 13 victories) and his final battle with many of the Royal Flying Corps aces and how long it took them to down him that day. He fought solo against EIGHT British Aces. From Wikipedia: "Voss had fought the British aces for at least eight minutes,[54] eluding them and achieving hits on nearly every SE.5a.[63][64] He crashed near Plum Farm north of Frezenberg in Belgium at about 18:40 hours.[65]"

Finally getting around to posting some new stuff.

I started trying to do a review of the K'Tinga kit as it is brand spanking new.... and discovered a GREAT BIG PROBLEM!

The upper hull was horribly warped. Turns out mine isn't the only one. There were at least a couple of others on the web that had the same problem. It also turns out there are a number of problems with the instruction sheet though Round 2 is posting (or is going to post) an updated PDF file of the instructions on their site. Turns out one of the Facebook sites is good for something.

While the kit is probably the most detailed of the all the Star Trek kits produced, it also looks like it was rushed a little. The warped part (which I have already fixed :D ) and the instructions problems are mainly from trying to get it out too fast. Fit and finish seem to be ok as quite a number of folks have already slapped theirs together. In addition ParaGrafix has released an accessory PE set and I am sure TenaControls will be doing a much better lighting set than the one that Round 2 released.

Nice score everyone! It looks like Christmas came early for some.

Mike, congrats on the review coordinator position. I was going to ask if you could send me the 1/72 scale kits to review, but I just remembered: I'm not an AMPS National member anymore. Anyway, enjoy that model; it looks like a great one.

Paul, some impressive scores. That K'tinga class ship is very intriguing....

Mark, it is probably the most detailed of the Round 2 ship kits to date. However, it is having some tough teething problems. Many think that things got rushed a touch at the last minute. Warped parts and instruction sheet mistakes are the biggies.

Already started a thread on fixing the problems and another was brought to my attention this evening. The neck has about a 3 or 4 degree twist which tilts the head to the port side just enough to notice. Still a really well done kit but they need to get the molding problems under control. The instructions are being updated and a pdf file posted on their site.

Trying a new adhesive. Heard good things from some guys at the club about it.

I'll let you know how it works.

I've just recently started using this. It advertises as not being as brittle as regular CA glue. I can vouch for it as I dropped a build on the floor, and none of the etch came off. The bottle is hard to squeeze the glue out of though. I've become a big fan of the VMS products.

Tried it out on PE railing and it works fine. Seems to be a bit more durable against snapping off if bumped. Tried it out gluing lycra thread on for rigging with some issues, although that is more to do with the lycra I think. If the thread doesn't stick at the first touch, it's hard to glue it a second time and takes some patience. I'll be doing some PE to PE and PE to plastic coming up on my USS Missouri build.

My local IPMS group had their annual holiday dinner and gift swap. Was a great time talking models and there was a large gathering of 17 in the house...great dinner and a fun White Elephant gift exchange...I ended up opening about 9 of the gifts because mine kept getting taken...but ended up with this fun looking kit-

Our host and leader talked with us a bit about his trip to the UK and the Telford show they went to. He had ordered these kits from Hannants for us- so this looks like a cool build...

At the end of the gift swap, he also gave us each a gift out of his plentiful stash...looking forward to this one-

Nothing too exciting, but made a trip down to Galaxy Hobby yesterday on my day off this weekend. Wanted to go for a drive, and I needed some supplies...most notably flat black paint as my current stock had gone gunnybags. Picked up another bottle of MM flat black, some sanding films, and a micro mesh kit.

I didn't find any a/c or armor kits that I was excited about, but did pick up an Aoshima 1971 GC10 Skyline 4-door for $20.
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/1092746-aoshima-053478-nissan-gc10-skyline-2000gt-71

I did see a Leopard tank that grabbed my attention...but the excitement dissipated very quickly when I saw the price tag. $80 was way to much for someone that has never built any armor yet. :pinch:

Also ordered some dropper bottles & pipets from Amazon for mixing airbrush paints...rather than trying to mix/thin in the airbrush cup on the fly. The bottles could come in handy for mixing paints as well for some of the old soviet aircraft in the stash.

Some paints for the Missouri build. Seems the MM 4200 series of ship colors is gone. A few colors are available in the 4800 paint series. I ordered the ones I needed for this build and then some. The anti-fouling red is no longer available I guess. I ordered a German red, but the color is way off, almost a mauve color?

5BCXVsp.jpg

I've got a stash of the anti fouling in White ensign paints, so I'm OK there. I also ordered some of the 4200 series colors when they were on discontinued sale in 6 packs a while back, it's just that the 5-N, 5-O and 5-H I have used up most of them.
