Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Yesterday Maus (James) came up to visit and exchange gifts. He was exceptionally kind and gave me the following plus another book. Its too far away from me at the moment so no pic. I'm thinking he wants me to do my glider soon in a diorama.

Was great to see him and the family but too short. He guilted me into going to Emergency after breakfast where I got another Christmas gift, although it wasn't much of a surprise. Will be an interesting year coming up and looks like a few changes in store whether I want them or not.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.
James

the German Aces books are very good - I have read them but do bot currently have a copy, as most of my current reading is related to Modern Israel and the wars surrounding it.

The Airborne troops pulling the 6 pounder looks particularly neat. After the war, the British War department made a film about the ill-fated fight at Arnhem, and used a lot of British standard and even captured/abandoned German armor and the like. One of the things not shown in the great film A BRIDGE TOO FAR is the use of several jeeps lulling 6 pounder AT guns, when were used to some effect by the Brits.

neat stuff!

OK, I am a dummy. I drove Panzer Concepts crazy but they did ship me the wheels for my Riich RSO tractor. I simply thought it was part of the Horch conversion. Easy replacement parts:

Also, got this book. James, did you get it too?

It was a great Christmas for me this year, mostly due to the money and gift card I got. I went shopping the day after Christmas and got these:

Paints, glues and decal set:

I got multiples since I need to stock up in my travel toolbox too.

And now for the models. I didn't get the top two selections on my list, but I did get some excellent selections...

But first, a Secret Santa sent me something from another Forums that I frequent. It was very unexpected as we hadn't set up a gift exchange:

Inside was this old "classic"!

The models I picked up are here:

IBG Japanese Chi Nu Medium tank:

That might be the first to start in 2019...

Another Riich Models M-109A2 so I can make it either British or Italian, whichever this vehicle fits better for:

Since I have a Russian T-35, I figured I'd get this Trumpeter T-28 to go with it:

And then I got some farm animals from Pegasus to feed my crew fresh milk and eggs:

I had also gotten the Pegasus Hobbies Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but the camera wouldn't focus on the box so you'll just have to look that one up to see what it looks like. I'd been wanting that for awhile, it was time to pick it up.

Finally, while it isn't quite model related, it does touch on modeling to some degree. This was my wife's present to me and herself:

Hey, there are a lot of war movies and historical documentaries I can watch on that!

Okay, that was my Christmas acquisitions. Merry Christmas to me!

I'll be watching for this one. A bit of history here.

1963 we had A4B's aboard ESSEX CVS-9 from a Marine detachment. This pic is from my cruise book. Normally we flew A4D's from Naval squadrons.

INFO; Also Quoted from the cruise book -

Sub Unit 1 H&MS 32 MAG32.
Was formed for the sole purpose of deployment aboard ESSEX for the Midlink VI cruise. It is the first time in the history of the Marine Corps Aviation that a unit of this type has been deployed aboard a CVS as a combat ready unit in support of an assigned tactical mission. with four A4B aircraft assigned it it well equipped for it's mission.

That is awesome EJ, thanks for that information. Now I need to get those decals for that aircraft, or one from that unit so I can make this into a Marine bird.

Paul, that's a neat car! I have been looking at one myself. My 2009 Nissan Versa has 222,000 miles on it, and while I hope it lasts a lot longer, when it finally kicks the bucket, I think I might get one of those very vehicles.

Excellent Paul! Nissans are great cars; I had one that finally died after acquiring 697,000 miles on it. My current Nissan truck has almost 250,000 miles on it and it is still going strong. Congrats on that great acquisition!

I have been pondering on this for a while and finally decided that to do it I just had to DO it.

To do lighting and effects on a number of my newer models needs something more than just LED's and some basic on/off switches. So I invested in a learning kit. There are various boards that go from tiny little things to this one which has the most capability. The more basic boards are actually pretty cheap and there are all kinds of interfaces available. Still need to learn the programming language and write my own sketches to get what I want. The recent K'Tinga kit and my large Millennium Falcon are two that have been floating around in my thoughts for a while.

Hopefully a little study and guidance and this should come together.

Awesome scores guys!

Frank, that is a good kit, but a copy of the Zvezda kit. Watch closely the parts numbers and placement of the suspension arms/axles. I had to tear mine off four times and re-do them because somewhere I had gotten the wrong parts number put together and then placed in the wrong places. Otherwise, that is a fantastic kit and very fun to put together. I only wish they had made it so you could raise and lower the launch tube, but no. Oh well. I built mine raised in the firing position; someday (when I get the courage up again) I'll get another and build it in transport mode (and even make it in the three-tone camo pattern!

Paul, that is an amazing set. How does one top that? LOL! :blink (y)

Anyway, here is my last acquisition I got last year as a Christmas gift to myself. I didn't post it then because for some reason the camera could not focus on the box and all my pics were blurry. This time, after considerable effort; I have a pic to show:

I had wanted that since it came out. I figured it was time since I had Christmas money to burn. I hope to get started on it this year.

Managed to get the missiles painted. Not to fix some errors and do a bit of light weathering while waiting for tracks to arrive.
