Great scores guys! Paul, that Liberator is massive! What a horse! I can't wait to see you build that!

Recently I got a box with the return address from "Secret Santa", someone from another Forums I frequent. I'll wait till Christmas to open that.

wow, very cool Paul!

That is huge! You're getting quite a collection of 1/32 kits now!

I have a number that are in 1/48th that I really need to find a new home for. I like the detail on the larger kits and they are such that it is possible to do things that can't be done in smaller scales. I know that smaller scales can and do require more skill in many instances. I find I can do the detail but then folks can't see it. :bang head

I remember a modeler in Tulsa, Bill Lewis I think the name was, built an early PB4Y navy Liberator back in the 80's using the 1/48th Monogram kit. Spent a long time on it and did a lot of heavy modifications. It had the bulgy fuselage that this one has. Was quite a bit different from the basic kit though it was an early one that had the twin tails. I am going to wait for some good AM stuff to come out for it before letting loose my AMS on it.

Can hardly wait.

My unexpected Christmas present showed up today. I Pre-ordered it quite a while back and it showed up at work today.

I went through and took photos of all the sprues this evening. There are a LOT of sprues! The clear parts are as good as any I have seen outside of HPH resin canopies. Very clear and little to no distortion. Some parts I expect to see resin aftermarket parts. In fact some parts NEED to be replaced with some good resin aftermarket parts. The engines and superchargers are basic at best and really rather mediocre. I am sure Eduard will be releasing a Big Ed eventually and it will be a big plus for adding appropriate detail. It also looks like they planned to have some cast parts for the landing gear with detail plastic being added around them, but the kit has plastic inserts instead. As heavy as it is I will also wait for some better inserts.

I will post up a review on it later in the week. There is a lot to the kit and a lot of sprues.

Wow Paul,

I'm envious! I would love to build that kit! That's gotta be huge! What's the wingspan? I have been a sucker for big scale models since I was a kid! Are you gonna do it in natural metal?

Fantastic!

Bob

Hey Bob! Hope all is well my friend! The posted wingspan on it is 105cm which comes in at a whopping 41 inches. The fuselage is a bit over 25 inches long and 4 inches tall. It looks to be fairly well engineered as the main spar for the wings is quite a hefty piece. I have not set down with my references yet to check out the detail accuracy though I can say that in a number of instances it is rather "soft". A lot of that should be fixable once the "After Market" gets in on the action. In some ways it is better than the B-17, in others not as good. We will see for sure once all the extra goodies appear. I think in some instances AM parts from the B-17 kit could be adapted without too much fuss.
As to the kit itself it comes with 3 sets of markings, one in OD and 2 in natural metal. Surface detail is ok with panel lines and "some" rivet detail. In N metal it could be updated with a LOT more rivet detail. I do hope that a bunch of after market decal sheets appear soon as I don't especially care for the ones in the kit. Of course there are also the crazy "formation" planes that had polka Dots and all sorts of bright colors. Didn't Shep Paine do one of those for the Monogram leaflet?
I have all the photos taken just need to get time to put them together.

Nicely done yet simple kit by Academy:

States full engine but it only has the top half and there are some other things that bug me:

Thanks to Panzer Concepts, I can redo the Horch conversion with 20mm AA gun as in the Shep Paine book but with modern kits:

Plus the STZ-5 wheels for the tractor are now in resin:

Those look nice Saul.

Anymore I tend to avoid Italeri kits. Have not seen anything really right from them. The only 2 I ever started are stalled because the detail is so wrong. Won't even go into the fit.

I'm SO thankful for the internet because now I can read reviews of kits before ordering or buying them. Seems to me that Italeri and Lindberg have inaccuracy in common. You need to be careful with some of the Tamiya kits these days too as some of them are just Italeri kits with either a few new parts or some figures by Tamiya. The Tamiya Commando Car is a case in point. It's just the old Italeri kit with the two crew figures from the old Tamiya Churchill Tank kit - not the one with the cart and farmer.

Cheers

It’s a Badger 80-2. Saw it on flea-bay, & I added the regulator & other stuff u see there. I have $42 total in it

I needed something quieter. I have been using a Harbor Freight pancake model that sounds like a jackhammer when u flip it on, so looking forward to trying it this next week!!!

Yesterday Maus (James) came up to visit and exchange gifts. He was exceptionally kind and gave me the following plus another book. Its too far away from me at the moment so no pic. I'm thinking he wants me to do my glider soon in a diorama.

Was great to see him and the family but too short. He guilted me into going to Emergency after breakfast where I got another Christmas gift, although it wasn't much of a surprise. Will be an interesting year coming up and looks like a few changes in store whether I want them or not.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.

How come the two figures next to the Kubelwagen look like butchers that are waiting for something to make brats from?
