Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Here is something I just ordered. I had one for years and then the movers destroyed it. This lamp is great for modeling, especially painting. It has both a round fluorescent light as well as an incandescent (Or LED) bulb in the center. That works great because it gives out both the cold blue light as well as the brownish incandescent light and won't give you a tinted color you won't see later in another room!. It is on a swing arm, very heavy duty and will last a lifetime. (Unless movers are involved)! They retail for over a hundred dollars, but here you can but them for under $90 and free shipping.

I love mine. except that it is the type with the daylight fluorescent type.

Mine was salvaged from two dumpster finds where I use to work :) Extremely inexpensive, for you guys that don't like to spend money :eek:hmy:

Free beats the hell out of $87.00! Did you find parts in both dumpsters and made a whole one? Cool!!! Of course I'd prefer to get mine your way, but I'm retired and there ain't no dumpsters in my driveway! BTW, Mine is the daylight fluorescent type too! Using both types of lighting, you can't go wrong, especially with figure painting!

quote="bob letterman" post=274930]That Revell Spad. I'll tell you how old that kit is! I built it in 1958 when I was 17. I loved all of those kits from Revell. The Spad, The
Sopwith Camel and the DR-1 Fokker Triplane, all in 1/28th scale. I have built all of them several times over the years. Some kits are just over the top nostalgic for me and those are included!

Good Choices!

Hi Bob.

The inside of the Fokker Dr.1 fuselage has a 1957 copyright date.

I'm going to get the Sopwith Camel soon. That leaves just the rather poor Fokker DVII to roundout the collection of Revell 1/28 scale kits. I don't know if I'll bother getting the DVII because there's a lot of modifying to get the fuselage to look right. Apparently the upper wing on it isn't that great either. Pity that because the other three kits are pretty decent despite their age. Revell is sure getting a lot of mileage out of the Camel, Fokker Dr.1 and Spad XIII kits.

Cheers[/quote]

Yeah, I think those molds paid for themselves decades ago! Probably on Revell's top profit item list! I built the Camel the last time around. That was back in 1982 and I did a lot of modifications to it and turned it into the Canadian Ace Captain Roy Brown's Sopwith.
It did well in competitions back then despite it's age.

Bunch of refs came today and some oil paint in flesh tones. See if they are any good and if they help me. The Panther book is also by Abt 502, An initial glance during supper made me happy I spent the money for it. Will check it thoroughly though to make sure. Also my micro brushes arrived and some DAK paint and crew.

Hey James,

I've heard of those micro brushes but have never seen or used them. They look like cotton swabs in the photograph? Do they work well? I guess they're used for small details?

Hi Bob. They are kind of like a micro fiber rather than cotton swab. I have used them for applying glue or paint and have seen them used for precision application of pigments. The neat thing is they can be bent. There is one youtube video on applying pencil lead but its a horrible video and I wont inflict it on you. I first got these from the hobby shop many years ago. If I remember correctly you got a package of 10 for $3 or $4. When I found these on Amazon at 100 for $4.50 I thought it was a steal. For paint they are great for knobs or tiny parts like in a cockpit.

Okay almost done. Just some Tigers left and my kit buying is done for a good long while. A new Hot water heater will see to that.

2 of 4 Tiger books have arrived and the new Meng Gepard and Whippet. It comes with some troops byt otherwise is the same kit with the same museum markings which disappointed me. And finally in preparation for Saul's African Campaign I have the new Takom AMX-13 with Chaffee turret for Angola 1961.

Thanks!

It's rare for armor to grab my attention enough to want to build one. Doubly so to find said kit on sale. Well, I did and it was. So it's now mine. Now to wait for a suitable GB to move forward with it. This is the second armor kit to ever make it to the stash. While I was at it, I also snagged some F-15 decals for some USAFE birds for a future build.

Robert Schneider of RS Models sent me the decals for my Do-17ka so I can build the one on the bottom of the port side profiles:

I also would have received a package from Eduard with my Trumpeter 72nd scale MiG-29 9-12 upgrades but no one was home to sign. I'll be away for a few days so no more updates from me.
