I saw those Fokker latches when checking out the engines the other day. Man that's like crazy!

Got this one in the last little while..

and a 1/48 resin SOC Seagull from Mike West at Lone Star Models

OH SHUT UP!!!

How cool is that! but....I gotta point out, the ribbing along the length of the fuselage, sure does not look right for a Wildcat. Looks more like fabric stretched over stringers than the conical shape we're us to seeing. After all, it was just a Wildcat mounted on floats right?

Moon, I think you're confusing the two different kits. The ribbed fabric-covered fuselage is the Curtis SOC Seagull- and doesn't look too bad! I'm also intrigued by the Wildcatfish. I have the F4-F kit and the vast Eduard set that goes with it- talk about a PE challenge!

That might be a very real possibility Barney. I have the Wings vac kit of the SOC as well and the Yellow Wings decals for the SOC. Might make a nice side by side build.

Just need to clear a few others out of the way first.

That's correct. The Catfish looks neat, never thought this aircraft would come in a kit form!

Chuk, I have the Wings Vac SOC kit as well and it looks like Mike might have used it as a reference for this resin kit. It does look fairly good though. I can post some more detailed images if you like.

I've seen that Wildcatfish built up. One of my fellow IPMS club members did it some months ago. It is a really nice little kit.

Picked up the new Orochi M3A3 Bradley Deluxe Edition, and the new Trumpeter Ju-87A Stuka kits in the last couple of weeks and put together some "Opening the box" reviews. Just need to figure out where to post them. Lots of my edited pics. :D

Picked these up over the past few weeks.

Been wanting to try this kit for quite awhile. I built the fighter version when I first got my airbrush from Jeff, it was a great kit so I expect the same of this one.

Few things came in yesterday. New Tommy's War vignette, some new Ammo of Mig clear paints, and a trench device for one of my Mk IVs.

Lozenge for one of my Fokker DVIIs.

New Fennek build magazine which looks pretty good.

New Static Model Manual which I thinik I wasted my money on and some shot up glass which I think was a waste of money.

I received my three books on the AVRO CF-!00 "CLUNK" today.

I'm very pleased with all three books.

I also received my eagerly awaited and much anticipated MasterCasters 1/48 scale CF-100 "CLUNK" Cockpit Update Set MST48006.

I'm not too pleased with it.

It comes with two colour pages with red numbers on it showing where the parts go. BUT. But there are no numbers on the parts trees!

On top of that the cockpit rails are badly warped.

It gets even worse. Some of the small parts aren't even there.

Oh, the canopy and the radar operator's protective screen are all on the same vacuformed sheet so you'd have to be very careful cutting the parts out especially if you want the canopy opened. This clear piece was loose in the box without being in a protective plastic zip bag or other protection. Fortunately mine looks to be okay.

All in all I'm disappointed in this set. I'm going to email them and show them images and then wait to hear what they'll do.

I wanted to do a review of this set as soon as I got it but now I have to wait to hear if they'll correct the problems.

Cheers from Peter

Sorry to hear about the resin Peter. I've had that same issue with several small garage run resin outfits. Hate to say it but it made me not want to buy stuff from smaller outfits anymore.

Thanks.

I sent them an email with images. I hope to hear from them soon.

On their website they also advertise a CF-100 exterior update set and three different update sets for the 1/48 scale Hobbycraft CF-105 Avro Arrow kit. I have that Hobbycraft kit and am really glad right now that I didn't order those sets unseen.

I guess time will tell if they'll make good on the damaged and missing parts. I do hope they replace them because this set is just under $43.00 Canadian with the shipping.

At least I can use the parts that are good. Even the warped canopy rails isn't a total disaster for my Mk.IV because I've already built the sliding canopy for it. I did want to use that new canopy on my Mk.V version though. At least I now have a proper looking radar operator's screen to fit into the cockpit between the radar compartment and the pilot's seat.

I'll let everyone know what the maker says in reply to my email.

Cheers from Peter

This showed up in the mail on Wednesday, and was greatly anticipating its arrival, picked it up from Saul in his sale thread.

Trumpeter 2cm Flakvierling 38 Auf Selbstfahrlafette. Basically a Famo & a 2cm Flakvierling on the back. Also included in the kit is a 2nd Trumpeter 2cm Flakvierling gun w/ a set of brass barrels and resin recievers, and then a Tamiya 2cm Flakvierling gun with an Eduard photoetch set.

Already have a couple of ideas on how to build the truck & gun, and the 2 extra guns and place them in a diorama. I've got a Custom Dioramic's German Strongpoint that I was thinking I could place one of the guns on the roof of the bunker. Still fleshing out idea's, gonna have to do some research to find out what would be accurate to do.

Hear back from the CF-100 Cockpit Update Set today. He ssaid thre are no missing parts and that the rudder pedals were originally to be cast on that parts block but those pedals are now cast separately. He also said he'd send out a new canopy rail to replace that warped one.

I've caught a cold bug (wasn't even trying to either) so won't be doing any in-depth building for the next few days. I'll be filling and sanding some of the kit parts I;ve modified though.

Cheers

That reminds me of the B58 hustler cockpit I got once, and returned. Seems that the one last surviving set from the person doing the castings had been bought and sold many times and it was returned just as many. I guess the guy couldn't cast a new set and the vendor didn't want to take the loss on the set. Might be one reason they are out of business now.
