"I'm only going to buy kits one at a time as I build them.... I swear"

Yeah, that's what I said to myself when I got back into the hobby. I even kept to it for a long while. A couple weeks ago I had ONE kit. An impulse buy at the only decent hobby shop in Dubai, then another impulse buy online, then okay, I'll take part in the group build...

I bring it up here because I know you guys understand.

You have broad range of interest that's for sure Al. Which one we building next?
The F9F, for the group build. I'm holding off on the Catalina, first because I might be moving soon and that will be harder to keep intact, and second because I'm thinking about putting it in "water". I've been playing around with epoxy resin to that end. I want to do the ships that way too.

All these are excellent kits! The Panther is dated, but still a fine model. The M-41 is my favorite tank. All your options seem like good ones!
Where will you move to?

I make a few ship models on water bases at tlarmodels.com
There are lots of materials to use to make convincing water.

Saran wrap over painted Scluter System shower board, for example, makes an interesting texture for calm seas.

This base has been used in quite a few "At Sea" pictures.

MiG acrylic water thinned with Windex and textured with a dinky spatula and overcoated with Future. What? you can't see the 1/700 scale boat?

How about now, in 1/350 scale? Better?

Sometimes a pdf printed on glossy photo paper is a dandy starting place.

The textured, translucent blue water sheet is commonly used for TLAR box art pictures. There are lots of water possibilities!
Clear epoxy resin can be troublesome for larger ocean bases, but it's great for streams, and puddles.

My 2 bits again.

As we speak, I have 6 projects going at the same time. 3 of them are 1/700 sailing vessels.
You can't rush the chemicals.
Busy Hands are Happy Hands!

Saudi Arabia, if it works out. Trouble is I think they have even fewer hobby shops than the UAE. Getting paints could be an issue.

Is that ship with the French flag the Calypso? That's on my Holy Grail list of models. I loved Cousteau's documentaries when I was a kid.

My Dad talked a lot about M-41s from when he was in the Army. He wasn't a tanker but he loved watching those things run.

I really want to get the epoxy resin to work because I like the slight bit of translucence. I can color and pour it ok, but texturing it is a no-go. I got some Vallejo Water Texture so my next step is to pour a block and see how I can make that look on top.

Saudi Arabia?! Yike! Where do you live now? UAE?
Yes, that is TLAR Models 1/700 RV Calypso. Every French vessel should come with a Froggie. I never did make up a scale Hughes 300D helicopter for her. I almost never missed an episode of the Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau.
TIP: After you pour your clear epoxy resin, spray it lightly with isopropyl. It causes all the tiny bubbles to burst.

Yes, Abu Dhabi. I'm earning back my gas money.

Great tip about the alcohol, thanks!

Pricey spot to make your home.
Did you choose Abu Dhabi, or did you have orders?
Is there an actual local hobby shop? I would like to see a picture of that!
Do they have Kentucky Fried Chicken there?

I chose Abu Dhabi. It can definitely get expensive if you're not disciplined. I knew guys who got into fancy watches and super-nice apartments, stuff like that. You can also live a lot more frugally and still be comfortable here.

The hobby shop is Otaku ME. You can find it on Google Maps with pictures. They mostly carry Gundam-type stuff, but they have a small section for other kits and a good tool section. There's actually a second shop but other than Vallejo paints they don't have very much of anything so I don't count them in.

Yes, there's KFC and lots of other American chains here, from Texas Roadhouse to Dunkin' Donuts. I almost never eat in them though.

We have KFC here. I can never fathom out where they get such small chickens from ?
Personally i dont hate myself enough to put that down my throat :)

KFC used to make the only cole slaw I would buy up here in the North. Now they went to that unpalatable, long grind Yankee slaw. 🤢
Mike & Michelle Trent runt me when we had white slaw with our BBQ pork sandwiches at their place.
That was many moons ago.
