Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte...Update 01/29/12

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Thanks guys.

Ron, I'm planning on having a figure standing on the bench seat, facing the rear of the vehicle. Once he's in there, you
probably won't notice the seat. Or they scooted it up for more room. There will also be two wounded soldiers, so it'll be
pretty cramped.

Thanks again!

Tom

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Thank you James.

Nope, just some machinist squares and a little double sided tape now and then.

Excellent work Tom, great detail on seat supports (y)

All the best!

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Tom, that is REALLY nice work with the seat supports! I don't mind many photos, I encourage it!

What about the Dragon outer wheels you want to save? Is it the central nut?

Regards,

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Thanks everyone!

Hi Saul
Yes it is the central nut. I think I've solved the problem by slicing the nut off of the wheels from a Tamiya Grief kit
and gluing them to the Dragon wheels. This leaves the Tamiya kit kind of useless, but it ain't that great anyways.
I could have swiped the updated wheels from a Dragon Premium Edition kit, but then that kit would be missing wheels.
The plan is for the half track to be in deep mud and snow, so I can probably quit obsessing about that part of it.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

I'd like to say I may have more pics this weekend, but...I may be distracted by something.

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Very nice stuff Tom. I like it when major clumps of kit plastic gets gone and replaced by some superb scratchwork (y) :notworthy

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Update time...finally. Lots of pics, hope you don't mind. :D

I've been working on the interior. The way Dragon has designed the seat supports is a bit simplified.

So I removed it and replaced with some sheet stock.

I rebuilt the seat supports with Evergreen angle.

Here are some of the subassemblies.

I've been experimenting with transfer tape a little bit.

010_MA2.jpg

Basically it is double sided tape, without the tape. You apply it, then peel off the backing and it leaves a layer
of adhesive. Then carefully place the part where you want it, and it sticks like crazy.

Smaller plate with transfer tape.

012_MA2.jpg

All the floor plates installed.

013_MA2.jpg

The seats are ready.

015_MA2.jpg

Other parts with some PE and details added.

016_MA2.jpg

Seats glued in and other parts dry fitted.

Looking at the pics now, I wonder if I have the drivers seat too far forward. It looks impossible
for anyone to get in there. I'll see if I can fix that tomorrow.

Phew, thanks for looking, all comments welcome,

Tom

I really don't know how I missed this Tom, outstanding work! (y)

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

good job, very nice! You are very meticulous.
Advice...before to stick any part, stop a moment and ask your self....After soldering this part( or parts)Is possible to paint whole part and apply effects arround???If not,you must paint thoose parts for separatley, and after put all together
You think like an engineer,it's ok ,but remember the hardnest part.Painting all, each millimeter.
Unleash your imagination!
Greetings

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Hello Victor
Thank you for the advice, believe me, I am doing my best to plan ahead. One thing I like about modeling AFV's is that
you can build an entire model, then paint afterwards. Not so with these little half tracks. Some of the parts are not
glued in yet, and will remain loose until it is time for paint.

Thanks again,
Tom
