Hi Everyone,
Started a new build, here is the kit and assorted aftermarket goodies...

020MA.jpg

This will part of a Kharkov dio, with the half track pulled to the side of the road, parked on a hill,
with the front wheels turned to the right. I didn't feel like scrath building the whole front suspension,
so I just started hacking away at it and rebuilding it.

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

My Bro-n-law plants around 8,000 acres of corn every year. It's mostly IP which is the kind used in food grade products but for kicks he'll usually have 5 or so acres of popcorn. I'll have to see what he's got we may need it here...
Nice start Tom (y)

Hey thanks guys, here's some more progress...hope we don't run out of popcorn.

Started work on the ModelKasten tracks, they go together easily enough, but are quite small and need a bit of clean up.

The set comes with inner road wheels and new metal drive sprockets. I wasn't sure if I would use them at first, but after
assembling one sprocket, I could see that it is much more finely detailed, so I decided to use them.

And you get some plastic adapters too...

010MA.jpg

The new road wheels are nice, but the hole in the center is too large for the Dragon axle part. So I punched some washers.

017MA.jpg

And picked out the most centered ones...

021MA.jpg

These were first glued to the axle arms.

026MA.jpg

Then to the road wheel...

That's where I am at now, thanks for looking

TOMMY,

Great Start on th HT !! Great save on th Road wheels ! I love M.K. trax !! were there ejector pin marks on these ? You mentioned some cleanup. I have build th ones for the Elephant & I'm now on a set for th Tiger &haven't really encountered that much need for cleaning them .

Rock-On ! I'm gonna need a Bucket of Corn too !!

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Thanks Erik!
I love MK tracks too. Just a little sanding and scraping after clipping from the sprue, you know, the usual, nothing major.

Now let's see if I can save the Dragon outer road wheels. :hmmm

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Update time...finally. Lots of pics, hope you don't mind. :D

I've been working on the interior. The way Dragon has designed the seat supports is a bit simplified.

001_MA2.jpg

So I removed it and replaced with some sheet stock.

002_MA2.jpg

I rebuilt the seat supports with Evergreen angle.

Here are some of the subassemblies.

008_MA2.jpg

I've been experimenting with transfer tape a little bit.

009_MA2.jpg

010_MA2.jpg

Basically it is double sided tape, without the tape. You apply it, then peel off the backing and it leaves a layer
of adhesive. Then carefully place the part where you want it, and it sticks like crazy.

011_MA2.jpg

Smaller plate with transfer tape.

012_MA2.jpg

All the floor plates installed.

013_MA2.jpg

The seats are ready.

014_MA2.jpg

015_MA2.jpg

Other parts with some PE and details added.

016_MA2.jpg

Seats glued in and other parts dry fitted.

Looking at the pics now, I wonder if I have the drivers seat too far forward. It looks impossible
for anyone to get in there. I'll see if I can fix that tomorrow.

Phew, thanks for looking, all comments welcome,

Tom

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Hey Tom,this is way COOL!!! (y)

As for the driversseat;maybe you have a driver figure in your stash, you could hold the figure above the seat,so you have a sence of how a figure could fit.

Always have liked the look of the 250 and 251 family, looking forward to the next steps!

Greetings,Ron.

Re: Dragon Sd.Kfz 250/1 Alte

Very very nice. Is that a rare earth magnet you use to hold the straight edges in place?? Will have to keep an eye on this build.
