Dragon 1/72 Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf D

I haven't been totally slackin off :zen

I won this in an Ebay auction a while ago

Actually it was a long while ago from an auction my favourite hobby shop was having, and there were 2 kits in the box for $10, no figgys but the Pioneer bridging thingies were there along with 2 complete Pak 3.7's , anyway after the thing lingered in in the back room of said hobby shop for several months I finally managed a trip into the city swung by to pick the up.

Good excuse to play with the new toy :woohoo:

But this is the real fun part for me :geek

And who can resist a test fit

I'd like to build a Pioneer and a regular version, preferably eastern front, been looking around to see what I can find for pics and profiles but i can't find much, also got to find some licence plate decals, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

It goes here and there are 4 of them, just curious to know what they looked like and what they were for

I may not bother putting them in fi they are not something regularly seen.

Tim,I could be wrong but it does look like the MG 34 [and MG 42] spare barrel container.

With the high rate of fire the MG 42 shot, it would be wise to carry several of them.

Thanks Ron, those look just like those parts and it would make perfect sense. Dragon has those and the other dumihickies that attach to the side walls all the same colour, which I kinda doubt, now I can add a bit of contrast there as well and at least know it's there for too :drinks

Been playing around trying to come up with a good mix for wood, remember Sesame Street? One of these is not like the other ones :yipee

Based on the location of the item in the kit photo, I agree with Ron, a spare barrel container.

These spare barrel containers did not only come in fieldgrey color [as in the picture] but also in German tankgrey and dark yellow,...I have also seen them in brown and green camo over a dark yellow base.
So you have several options.

That's looking very nice so far, a few people sneer at 1/72 scale armor kits but after building one recently I actually enjoyed it.
Its good to see other people build in this scale.

How's the fit on this?

I gotta say I started on a Dragon 1/72 Jagdtiger that went form "build a cool little model" to "build and use for paint
practice" to "the trash" in a couple of days...

The fit is actually not to bad, it does take a bit of test fitting and some minor adjustment but nothing serious. I've got the Dragon King Tiger I've half built which I found to be a pain, not the worst fitting model I've built but it certainly has it's issues, like the way you have to assemble the road wheels, who thought that one up I wonder. And I really really don't like those DS tracks, I guess they are the cats meow for some people but give me the L&L any day.

Here is where things are at at the moment

I bought some Vallejo water based chipping medium that I'm going to try out on the bridging equipment before I go hog wild with it.

Anybody got some picks of them in use? I haven't been able to find any just yet.

Check out my Halftrack from Shelf Queen, I used that stuff for it. I would suggest sealing after you get the chipping level you want cause I found that the more I worked with the stuff, it would still chip away.
