Remember, with weathering, less is more. If you rust the outside of the hull, turn her upside-down and start at the waterline. US Navy crewmen kept everything from the main deck up painted and tidy, if memory serves.

God help the seaman striker, over the side on a bosun's chair chipping and painting the hull!

Subtle. Nice actually. Shep Paine said once "You don't want your weathering to make your model look like it had a wreck in a flour factory."
Watch and see what happens when you flat-coat. Did you turn her upside-down to do it?
Tamiya smoke over small drops of silver for the portholes in the open watertight doors, maybe?

I didn't turn it over because I didn't add rust, just waterstains. I took your instructions too literally? As for the doors, I am not sure what you mean. I DID use Testors window making glue to make windows on the bridge. Smoke is a great idea to use over them.

I am having a hard time finding what color to paint the dingy's. Anybody know?

I did a few things. I ordered the Tamiya 1:359 Mighty Mo as my next ship, along with railing for this one.
I "glassed" the bridge windows. One is still drying:

I added rope (large, rope colored EZ-line) to the bow:

I also "glassed" the portholes and door portholes. Not sure you can tell:

And I ran the rigging with small black EZ-line:

I went through and tidied up so e sloppy paint jobs. Now, I am waiting on the railing, and for someone to tell me what color to paint the dingy's (they are too big to be life boats, right?)

Nobody answered my dingy question, so I painted them like I want to!
I added seating and little oars, plus block and tackle. Going to wait for railing to get here before installing.

Ok, I changed the wording a little to fit my question. I did not like the EZline as my ropes. I have three strings, large medium and small, brown, tan, and grey, left to right. Which is most appropriate?

New fantail flagstaff. I used a 1mm brass tube topped with a 2mm gold bead and braced wiith .5mm brass rod. I like it MUCH better. The flag is the paper one from the kit, held together with slow drying cyano and formed with tweezers before the glue set. Whether to weather hmmmm

I think it depends on what line you're running. I think the thinner one will work.
