An old Otaki Fw 190 is being built...

I did some paint fading with the airbrush and decided to stop before I fade the paint anymore, my next step will include airbrushing on some exhaust stains and using oil paints to add some oil drips around the engine cowl and then see how that looks before I fade the paint much more.

Thank you Dave!

Here are two more pics of this mess...

Since these two pics were taken I restored a little bit of the national markings to give them more of a look of paint fading and flaking off.

Three new in-progress pics, here you can see I added the exhaust stains and have started some work with the oil paints with highlighting of a few random panels.

Les what did you use to do the scrapped soot look around the access panels and where they would crawl into the cockpit? Really nice touch!

Thanks guys!

Moon Puppy,
After looking at many photographs of captured German aircraft at the end of the war I noticed the exhaust stains would get rubbed off from G.I.s climbing around the aircraft and wanted to get that same look to my model. What I did was simply scrape away some of the paint using the tip of an X-acto blade. Since the pics were taken I spent a little more time and scraped off a lot more of the paint on the edges of the exhaust stains and it now looks a little more like soot has rubbed or worn off the airframe. Just before I add the final clear coat I will mist on a very light coat of exhaust stains to complete the look I am after.

Thanks again Moon Puppy!

I had planned on having this one finished by this Friday but that won't happen, besides painting weathering is the part of model building I enjoy the most and am taking my time.

Okay this is fascinating. At first I thought oh my, but as you do more it does look like a faded distressed a/c. Very very nicely done. Now for more popcorn. :popcorn :D

Thanks for the comments! :)

Two more in-progress pics from today, the landing gear has been added as well as many of the smaller parts. As you can see I am building this model with the left landing gear partly collapsed, in a few of my reference books show a few Fw 190s were damaged by the retreating Germans by retracting the landing gear part way and letting it drop on one wing tip. Quite a few Fw 190s that were operated in the Czech territory were made unflyable this way.

:Hiay That's coming along very nicely Les. Are my old eyes decieving me or did you bend the pitot tube? More :popcorn needed. :snoopy

Thanks again Dave!
Yes the pitot tube was bent on purpose, often very late in the war the retreating German forces had to vacate their bases very quickly and any aircraft that was not airworthy and could not be flown out were damaged to prevent their aircraft from being used for joyrides by Allied pilots, sometimes aircraft were just blown up and other times holes would punched in the rear of the fuselage and usually the pitot tube would be bent down to prevent the aircaft from being easily repaired and flown.
It can't be seen in the pics I just posted but I also flattened the tire on the extended landing gear leg, and there are also some holes punched in the skin of the rear fuselage, my hope is this will be better seen in pics of the finished model.
