All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

I hear ya, Bob. I was fortunate that my first enlistment included travel after being SACumcized at Plattsburgh. The final SACrifice was at Whiteman in Missouri... Lucky for me I got to travel the world and see how wonderful my own little patch of life is in Lakewood. After Central America, Middle East/Sw Asia, and various other locales... I will keep my skinny butt at home on the North Coast.

Today, for the first time ever, I braved the hell that is Black Friday, haha. Was surprised to find it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, but I was also very late in terms of Black Friday, in that I didn't leave the house until 7am. And we only went to Sams Club, in an effort to check out a mattress. Ended up at a local place near our apartment, and found a better deal on a better mattress. Besides that, about all I've done today is sleep, haha.

Been playing with my new Galaxy S tablet with the super res screen. Hate having to redo all the shorts and passwords to a new device. On the other hand the screen on this is AWESOME!!!!

Many thanks to my brother as I wouldn't have bought it for myself. Still like my old one as it has the keyboard for it. Will see how much I like this one once I play with it a bit. :hmmm

I hear ya! I upgraded from a Galaxy S3 phone to an S5 last Monday, and have spent the last several days working on getting it set back up the way I want it.

Didn't all those settings update when you synced with your Google account?

I got two VIP users who have them, they love them but we are going to the MS Surface Pro 3. Full Active Directory integration and management and enough power to be a Laptop/Desktop/Tablet replacement. Not WORKSTATION power but enough for basic number crunching and the Senior Singles Dating websites those guys hit...( long story :rotf ).

Actually I'm looking forward to getting one myself.

Don't have my account info here. All that is at home, and besides I hate having stuff stored online. No cloud crap for me. Everything I have online has the master copies (yup copIES) in my hot lil hands. Have zero trust for cloud stuff, and don't want to mess with it.

Yeah, I tend to do stuff the hard way at times, but then again I know how to do things to my machines that many IT folks struggle with.

Not looking forword to learning Windows 8.1 and going through the hassle of setting it up the way I want it when the new machine is purchased. :pinch: :bang head

Windows 8 ain't so bad Paul, just have to embrace change man! Honestly it looks like the corporate world is going to skip Win8 and wait to see what they do with Win9, in the mean time we're developing work environment along mobile devices. We're seeing a day where production out on the manufacturing floor will be using Tablets on docking stations to report product runs and stuff. No more Green Screen dumb terminals. :geek

IT Folks struggling? Sounds like a challenge to me.... :hmmm

Well Today I'm going to work ...... Hang over day from Black Friday ...... My shop is kind of in a little old department store a Perkins Brothers to be Exact ..... there are about 12 different business there. Yesterday & today is Friends & family day so, The lady who runs the Mini-mall invite her friends from around town to come in and set-up their wares ........ Very busy with the extended traffic but great exposure.

I'm a little like Paul, I don't trust any cloud either ..... the little computers Ya'll carry and your always looking at perplex me .... I don't understand the attraction, so I don't own one ( very ... Long ... Story ) I really hate change ..... I don't want to learn something over & over ..... buy the latest just to have a better one come out next week, then I have to rush out & get that one, So still running on a Laptop that I bought about 2009 .... A nice little HP G62 64-bit with AMD chipset. I thought I had evolved but I also need to upgrade ..... I'm a hardware man ..... A graduate of Control Data .... back when the computer was a large room ..... So I need to get my Geek on .... and learn more IT .... I really don't look forward to a new Machine ..... as I've just gotten Win 7 & IE 11 sorted out. I think .... I guess the 128 Bit MB is coming Heck might be already here .... I know the sound chips I put in my little train engines are up to 32-bit processor's just so the little engine sounds real ..... Soundtraxx is still on a 16 bit EQ .... so I'm happy with older low Tech ..... Change is coming We can't outrun it ...... But doesn't it just come down to the fact that Companies want your money and the only way to get more of it is to introduce a new device ..... that isn't backwards compatible ??? I guess I'm just happy with digital trains ..... and I won't need to upgrade them, they are fixed where is the new stuff can be added to the old stuff ..... what A rant ....

I know my work refuses to use Windows 8. Of course I also find it funny that they have Apple computers with windows 7 on them :rotf Makes me happy since I loath Apple products in every way. Get to go into work today for more training though. Sucks but since my inlaws are here it means less time spent with them

I hear y'all about the Cloud thing. Not a fan of it either although I'm all up Google's butt. Trick is not to give it anything you don't want public, no matter how private they say it is.

But in a corporate world, what we're doing now is looking into developing a private enterprise Cloud, employees enjoy the benefits of a Cloud while IT enjoys the control of where the data is stored and who has access. :geek

My father bought a Bridgeport Line-O-Trace Vertical Milling Machine in 1969-70. We were computerized!

I helped a friend in Ashtabula convert from an ancient Mac (680020 chip) to Power PC to OS X... Easy Peesy! In the bad old days when Mac was going out of business every year, it was easy to transfer files from an older program to the latest.

I have been forced to use '95, '98, XP and now 7 at work... Of course working in public schools our computers have just enough RAM to open the OS and browser. Want to run Word? Ha! Our network has about 40% of the bandwidth it needs, which slows us down even more and several of the programs we are tied into for learning software and grading systems do not work well with IE anymore.

Why can't we all get along!?

And Speaking of getting along: Go Bucks! Beat That School Up North! (wait is that politics or religion? )

Got my CDL renewed earlier today. Thankfully,I did not have to go to the DMV itself. :geek There is two places called Brimmer's in Lancaster,PA where I can get the photo taken.

What are the odds a man with the initials CDL would have a CDL?
