32 Tamiya Birdcage

The biggest contention for me concerning any Tamiya Corsair kit is the wing panel fit. There is no secure connection when the outer panels are brought to mate up with the inner ones. As a result, there is always a misalignment between the two. In the 32 scale kits it is very much less so but it still leaves a gap between the two and it requires some fore thought on the modelers part. Fortunately for me the wing panels lined up fairly straight and I used some weld on to seep in between the butt joint with only a small gap and a minimal step. This should be a good 10-footer. I am doing this with gear up so the one-piece gear doors fit in the wing like a glove with minimal effort. No gaps or steps. The flap down assemblies were almost effortless in the whole assembly.

Paul, it's hard to think of a situation where you would be full flaps and gear up, but I suppose it could happen. Thanks for the heads up about the wing fit.

Paul can you give us a bit larger image? Having to break out the glasses for this.
Agreed!

Flaps fully down and gear up is on approach for a carrier deck landing as per flight manual... Obviously, bring gear down on final approach... Note, once arrestor hook is released, the gear can't be pulled up.

As far as the flaps go, it's only full flaps or none at all. I did it just to do something different. Sort of artistic license.

Compress the images a bit. Our limit is 2mgs, there's got to be a happy medium between what you got there and 2 mgs.

The most likely scenario would be a pilot about to make an unintentional gear up landing, Paul. But maybe it's just some guy out practicing. Most any modern airplane of any size would have a loud horn blowing in the pilots ear, but I doubt a Corsair would have that.

Battle damage resulting in a crash/barrier landing? Ditching at sea? Will the canopy be open and did the kit come with a pilot figure?

Another one, sweet! I'm surprised at the low I.A.S., but then again, I've never landed a bird on a carrier either. Always wanted to though.

I mucked around a while to try and get something that resembles non-specular gray blue. This was the closest that I could get. The sort of salmon pink won't really be seen through the cockpit and the starkness of the insignia white should tone down once the weathering is applied. As for the rest of the build I think I will start on the engine after the holidays.
