DH88 Black Magic

Building models with kids is about more than just modeling. Like when old farts play cards together. It also about the company. Load Gideon up with Oreos and Mountain Dew before you send him home!

I'm in the fill sand and repeat mode right now, I'm trying to get that wing root smooth, it's looking good but I'm taking my time and making sure I don't turn a blind eye to a defect like I generally do.

I got the panel line along the fuselage sealed up and I'm happy with that. I got brave and decided to glue the wings in place. I don't want to seal up that panel line so I'm using every scribing tool I have to clean up some of the excess CA and rebuild some of the shape lost in sanding prior to installing. That trailing edge has to have some work yet but i'm feeling good so far.

If you draw on the joint you're working on with a sharpie, you see a flaw or gap without actually priming it.
A TLAR ship trick!

Cleaned up some of the tail feathers and it's shaping up. Archer's resin details restores the fuel access ports along the top of the fuselage .

I can't find any contemporary photos showing the access panels along the sides so they were either so smooth they don't show up or they are not there. In the photos of Black Magic restoration there are no access panels so I'm not adding them along the side.

I'm thinking a coat of black all over is next. :pilot

Man I'm glad I looked at that photo again, I didn't see that blemish behind the canopy. Will fix that before black goes on.

It's BLACK!!! :frantic:

Straight flat black. I remember Saul suggesting once to paint flat black to get the coverage and then gloss on top of that. So what do you all think? Gloss Black now or start clear coats to get gloss?

I'd see what happens with a gloss coat which should dry faster. If that's not shiny enough you can still go with a thin gloss black.

Bob, I've been up close and personal with the US replica and I wouldn't do a wash on the wings at all. It was a smooth continuous finish.
