Where is Global Warming when you need it?

Down here in SA it does make a huge difference as we are closer to the south pole Higher up in africa the temps stay very constant The rain season starts then though. Here near the southern tip of Africa we even have snow on our mountains and temps go to minus C's at night.

I Once met a man from Nigeria, the coldest he has ever been before coming to SA was 28C with high humidity :woohoo:

Hey Dave, if you ever see that guy again, show him these photographs. Now this is cold!

This is weirdly beautiful.....
St Joseph Lighthouse, Lake Michigan 1/2014 after storm

This is the St. Joseph Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Today, it is encased in ice
as the Midwest was hit with wind chills that reached -50 degrees.

First, as it looks normally.

Then, after the storm.

Now that's cold!!! :yipee

Wow! I really hope the beacon survives all the weight of that ice Bob. Winter can give you some awesome pics though the thought of digging through that to fix something sends more than a shiver down my spine. CR

Well we are now up to 18 inches of snow here and it just keeps piling up. Going to be using tire chains for sure since nothing has been plowed.

First time I got here in Australia I was telling people about one of my best winter memories - a place up in the mountains, open fire, cognac, reading Les Trois Mousquetaires while the wind was making the pine trees and the rocks "sing" - that unique sound that you cannot get anywhere else. They were like :woohoo: - sounds exotic. Most people here have never seen snow.
Later on I went on a field trip with my boss, a smart educated lady, had dinner at a restaurant and I wanted to have a cognac. Allowed her to smell it but that was all  . When she went to France on a work related trip 6 months later, first thing she tried ? Cognac !!!

Sorry for digressing :smack but I really do miss a good cognac which can best be enjoyed in front of an open fire, no other lights in the room plus all the other bits and pieces that Bob mentioned. (y)

You forgot the snow bunny, A Cognac, warm fire and a snow bunny on the rug ready for a cuddle.Thats the life :woohoo:

Snow Bunny????

My wife and daughter are MA members! :smack

:yipee

Besides, I'm too old for that stuff!

Wow, some of those pics remind me of my time in Minnesota. Glad I left. Out here in Southern California we've been experiencing 70's and 80's F with lows at night in the high forties at the lowest for the past couple months. Finally getting the rain we've been needing; hopefully more will be coming our way.

You guys stay safe out there.

I read this today and for some reason, it really struck home. Anybody else? :bang head :bang head :bang head :bang head

Dear Diary:

Aug. 12 - Moved into our new home in the outer St. Louis suburbs . It is so beautiful here. The
hills and river valleys are so picturesque. I have a beautiful old oak tree
in my front yard. Can hardly wait to see the change in the seasons. This is
truly God's Country.

Oct. 14 - St. Louis County is such a gorgeous place to live, one of the real special places on Earth. The leaves are turning a multitude of different colors. I love all of the shades of reds, oranges and yellows, they are so bright. I want to
walk through all of the beautiful hills and spot some white tail deer. They
are so graceful, certainly they must be the most peaceful creatures on
Earth. This must be paradise.

Nov. 11 - Deer season opens this week. I can't imagine why anyone would
want to shoot these elegant animals. They are the very symbol of peace and
tranquility here in the St. Louis metro area . I hope it snows soon. I love it here!

Dec. 2 - It snowed last night. I woke to the usual wonderful sight:
everything covered in a beautiful blanket of white. The oak tree is
magnificent. It looks like a postcard. We went out and swept the snow from
the steps and driveway. The air is so crisp, clean and refreshing. We had a
snowball fight. I won, and the snowplow came down the street. He must have
gotten too close to the driveway because we had to go out and shovel the
end of the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Nature in harmony. I
love it here!

Dec. 12 - More snow last night. I love it! The plow did his cute little
trick again. What a rascal. A winter wonderland. I love it here!

Dec. 19 - More snow - couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work in
time. I'm exhausted from all of the shoveling. And that snowplow!

Dec. 21 - More of that white s__t coming down. I've got blisters on my
hands and a kink in my back. I think that the snowplow driver waits around
the corner until I'm done shoveling the driveway. A__hole.

Dec. 25 - White Christmas? More freakin' snow. If I ever get my hands on
the sonofabitch who drives that snowplow, I swear I'll castrate him. And
why don't they use more salt on these roads to melt this crap??

Dec. 28 - It hasn't stopped snowing since Christmas. I have been inside
since then, except of course when that SOB "Snowplow Harry" comes by. Can't go anywhere, cars are buried up to the windows. Weather man says to expect another 10 inches. Do you have any idea how many shovelfuls 10 inches is??

Jan. 1 - Happy New Year? The way it's coming down it won't melt until the
4th of July! The snowplow got stuck down the road and the s__t head
actually had the cajones to come and ask to borrow a shovel! I told him I'd
broken 6 already this season.

Jan. 4 - Finally got out of the house. We went to the store to get some
food and a damn deer ran out in front of my car and I hit it.
It did $3,000 in damage to the car. Those beasts ought to be killed. The
hunters should have a longer season if you ask me.

Jan. 27 - Warmed up a little and rained today. The rain turned the snow
into ice and the weight of it broke the main limb of the oak tree in the
front yard and it went through the roof. I should have cut that old piece
of s__t into fireplace wood when I had the chance.

April 23 - Took my car to the local garage. Would you believe the whole
underside of the car is rusted away from all of that damn salt they dump on
the road? Car looks like a bashed up, heap of rusted cow s__t.

May 10 - Sold the car, the house, and moved to Florida . I can't imagine
why anyone in their freakin' mind would ever want to live in the God
forsaken State of Missouri....

I got a question for y'all snow bound folks.

Down here in the south we rarely get this stuff. Now it's been on and off 3 days. I keep reading in the news that the authorities in Charleston are closing the Arthur Ravenel Bridge because of falling ice from the cables.

I know they have cable stayed bridges up north, are they closed often for falling ice?

I have never heard of cable bridges being closed here in the north. Saul or other New Yorkers may be able to say yes or no.

We have several of those where I live and I have never heard of them closing due to falling ice.

Sorry that I got here late.
GW is alive and well in CA. Worst drought since the mid 70's. It has been T-shirt weather here (northern CA) since ..... well, .... T-shirt weather (summer).
Weird.
The high pressure system that has been parked off-shore and kicking our "normal" weather pattern (west to east -[and onshore]) north into Canada and back down onto the rest of you, has finally change addresses. We are starting to get some rain (And more importantly, snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Which is our reservoir for the summer).

Sorry you all are suffering. :( Hang in there.

+ side is bench time. Keep cranking it out! (y)

Cheers,

Bill

p.s. : love the light light house pics.! Wow.

Hey Bill, Brings to mind something a Missourian once said. Samuel Clemens, (Mark Twain), once said, "The coldest winter I ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco". :yipee
