Tamiya Birdcage Corsair

Braving the cold
Yeah right. Our high for the last two days was -9 C (16 F) with 25 cm of snow (10 in) and it is still lightly snowing and heading down to -17 C (1 F) overnight. And thats our "warmest" overnight temperature this week.

Cheers,
RichB

(ECCC just updated the total snowfall)

It was 58 F here today. Felt nice in the sun. I should have been outside this weekend doing a final mow on the lawn and some work on my Blue Scoot. Alas a cold had me under the covers asleep most of Saturday and still all sniffly today. Hopefully I kick the fever and the rest so I can go visit my brother for Thanksgiving. Better now than it popping up on Tuesday or Wednesday.

You want VT17 I'll do that, has decals in the box for that. Again this is not a specific aircraft, this is what I think might have been a plausible scheme based on the things I've read about cannibalizing airframes to get something in the air.

I need a sharper demark between the two different shading patterns. Pin wash in the panel lines might help. I might be too faded on the DSB on the nose section. I do like this tri color from Mission, unlike the Vallejo attempt you can clearly see the difference in colors.

My blood has thinned since my short time south of the great white north, I remember all too well beer freezing in a matter of minutes sitting on the outside window sill of the barracks or hydraulic fluid pissing on the tarmac and bouncing like little bbs. in the ice and snow. How about the time that a KC was sitting at Tanker 8 pad, AKA Lake Tango because water pooled there. It was iced over and the KC just turned into the wind like a big weather vane.

That's why I got my redneck ass back down here. :mpup:rotf

It got up to mid 60s today.

I would still rather be cold than wet , Parts of the UK got a months worth of rain on Sat which is a lot here in Nov, bridges washed away home destroyed and businesses ruined . I;m alright I live on a hill :)
The greens cry climate change, truth is it happens every winter.....For about 3 months of the year the UK land mass reverts back to being part of the Atlantic sea bed :)

For me, after growing up in Miami and three tours in Nam, N. GA is cold to me. Even after being up here around 18 years or so. Great work on your Corsair. Gary S.

Goe's revenge for draining the fens, Paddy. I read somewhere that is rains somewhere in the UK everyday. After 4 years in Suffolk, I BELIEVE!

They complain here in Memphis about how hot and cold and humid it is. It is so mild compared to Oklahoma that I just laugh at them. My brother lives in Kansas City and has snow 5 months of the year. Yeah, he can have that.

I have learned to be patient about finishes when you guys use the black basing.
I envy people that can be quiet. When I keep my mouth closed, subtitles come out of my face! ZORN!!

The 4th color of the tricolor scheme is on. Barely see the difference.

Only the leading edge of the wings are non spectacular blue, got to look at the book again to see how much of the fuselage had it or if the underside of the wings were glossed. In person you can see the variance of the colors.

And she's UP!

Landing gear ready for inspection.

You can't notice it here but I have one landing gear in neutral grey. There's a photo of a Dauntless with mixed color landing gear, I figure what the hey.

I need to setup a monitor in the shed, I have a little laptop out there but don't often fire it up to check references. If I had checked I wouldn't have made this mistake.
This is the look I'm going for...

Notice the warn blue at the wing root? Keep in mind this is a very early Corsair with a fresh paint job, Already the paint has worn through down to the yellow...not salmon primer. It's well documented in Dana Bells book.

And this is the mess I did!

I can take this back with some more blue on top. maybe some more yellow zinc as I was trying green.

OH, wheels are on.

The camera is on the sunny side of the Corsair. The reflection off the sea blue puts me in mind of a pretty clean airplane. Didja notice the touch-up under the cockpit? It's odd the groundcrew left the wing root over the oil cooler looking worn. Wing mounted bomb racks and a lack of squadron ID markings? Is this an advanced gunnery trainer, maybe? Kenny Walsh's airplane looked a lot like the picture, but that was VMF-124.
