Rob's '34 Henry V8 Pickup

Hey All

Well.. 7 months down the track, I've finally managed to start work on this beastie.

After closer inspection of this kit, I found it to be really shockingly bad. I don't know how old the dies are, but the castings are warped and have needed a lot of cleaning up. So, between this, and the truncated timetable I have set myself, I'm not going all out on this one, I'm just going to try and get it built by the end date with a couple of minor mods.

So.. I've spent most of today cleaning off my workbench and sanding the chassis of the truck. As mentioned, there was heaps of plastic bleeds to reduce. I've also sorted the guards and running boards (which handily come in one piece), which will go on the model unaltered.

Next was the deck.... which handily comes with a woodgrain finish on the deck.. which has 6 really bad pin marks rendering the deck useless!!! So off to the LHS to get a 3 foot length of Balsa to replace the 3" deck wood.

And lastly, one of the few mods I'll be doing is choppin' the top of the cab. I took a 5mm chunk out of the pillars, and now have to sand up what is left to level and then fill the remaining gaps. But, before that, I need to fill and sand the massive pin marks on the inside of the roof of the cab!!! All fun and games.

Right.. here's the proof work has commenced

Hi Rob! Good to have you working on this one again, makes me want to dig out my '34. What color scheme have you got planned? (y)

Hey All

Thanks for your interest.. I hope the build is interesting

Mike.. It'd be cool to see another one under way.. learn where I can improve along the way. I'll be painting the guards/fenders and engine bay Humbrol Matt Scarlet Red (60) on top and gloss black on the underside and the chassis and the body will be a dark metallic blue then a flat coat over the top. I haven't decided if I'm going to add additional detail on the doors.. will see where that goes when I get there.

Just a small update. I've been slowly working on the engine. I'm painting the block Humbrol Matt Trainer Yellow (24), the heads, intake manifold, and Carb Humbrol Metalcote Aluminium (27001), and exhaust manifolds and pipe will be Humbrol Metalcote Polished Steel (27003), and (yes.. there's more lol) the sump will be painted black (what ever I have open at the time), and the gearbox a light grey (again, what ever is open). Here's what's been done so far

I've also got to make up the pipes that take the spark leads from the dizzy through the belt and lie above the heads.. hard to explain.. but will make one up and take a pic soon.

More to come soon.

Cheers

Hey All

Unfortunately due to injury, I'm not going to be able to finish this one in time.

Mike.. can I get you to please move this over to the Civil builds area?

Cheers

Rob

Rob sorry to hear about the injury! I hope it's not too bad. :eek:hmy:

Terry :eek:hmy:

The two things that bugs me the most about this injury is.. I have no idea how I did it, and there was no alcohol involved :blink

Oh my! That IS bad! Sorry to hear of your injury and hope you recover soon! We'll get this moved to the civil category and look forward to watching it progress.
