RAF 112 Sqn Kittyhawk

Fingers crossed, Paddy! I'm going to have to strip the primer off the 388, 'cause tape just pulls it right off. I forgot to wash it down with rubbing alcohol, like a dope.

Finished painting...............................maybe i will pull the tape tonight.... :woohoo:

I wonder if i soaked it in water first....

Looks like we got away with it guys but with reservations.

Few bits of over spray to sort out

The piece above was the only piece i added after i had primed the model and you can see what happened :)
Overall my impression as a first time user of this paint is....
Plus side.
Sprays very well.
Thins nicely with tap water.
Easy clean of the airbrush (easier than Tamiya) just needs a flush under the tap.
Accurate colours.
Cheaper than Tamiya.
Gloss finish so decals go straight on ( no more future)

Against.
Primer is an absolute must even if you don't use masking tape ( it will scratch/mark with just handling).

This is my test piece done at the same time as the model but no primer....

You can see there is very little sticktion with this paint and no etching qualities at all.

Over all i will use it again and once you know the problems it will become easy to work round them.

Sorry for deviation off the WIP into a road test of paints :))

Are you kidding? You are helping others and I would REALLY hope you will submit this part as a review of the paints. Now I know that I must always use primer on my models since the Hannants, other than the bottle size, are the same.

Regards,

Thanks Sharky :)
Dont be put off, they are nice paints and really easy to use. They brush as well. Not many paints thinned in the bottle ready to spray can cover with a brush as well. My advice would be test with a primer, you may just get away with Tamiya Matt White or Grey from a rattle can to make things easier. See what suits you and what works for you. I think the result is worth learning a new method
Cheers

Paddy... I really appreciate the "review" of the Agama paints... Now I just have to score some primer... :pilot

Soldier on! :soldier

Now you're just trying to confuse an old man... (which don't take much these days) Still good knowledge and advice.

I just checked the price, Tamiya is £1.55 for 10ml, Xtracrylix is £2.00 for 16mm
Notice in Poland you are only getting 10ml not the 16ml we get from Hannants.

£0,85 for 10ml of Agama in Poland B) - I pay that price in Jadar...

BTW Paddy - cammo looks graet (y)

Hi Paddy. Just getting caught up on the posts. :popcorn I like the texture details on the bomb. Good idea ! :)
I don't agree with your statement on the details though. Some people will notice the details if they are truly interested in aircraft building. I for one and I know there are others here that are interested enough to look. I like it (y)

Cheers, Christian B)

Looks awesome. The little details really stand out. Interesting idea with the bomb. Not sure I would do that, but it might be the way to go making USN bombs from the vietnam era on with their crackle paint. Intersting write up on the paint. I dont think I'll ever use it just because its so hard to get even my fav brands here. But it is well written and will help a lot of people. The overall look of this bird is outstanding (y) (y) (y)

Hi James, don't forget the bomb is enlarged about 50x so it looks a bit odd. When you look at it in 1/1 its only an inch or so and the naked eye evens out the cast iron effect as its so small.sometimes you need to exagerate things in this scale to make them noticable. Panel lines are a good example. If you scale up most peoples panel lines then aircraft would have 1 inch gaps between all their panels

Things have ground to a halt while decorating the house has taken over.
I did get it up on its wheels and had an experiment with panel lines..... I have hyped this picture up a bit to show the lines, they are not as noticeable on the model. I used a water colour paint with a light brown for the dark areas of camouflage and a dark brown for the light areas other wise you only end up with half the lines showing if you see what i mean. I will fix it all in place with a Mat coat once the decals are on. Things always look a bit odd at this stage with exaggerated lines and gloss paint, no decals and the camera flash changes the colour of things as well.
I have been searching the net trying to find an article i read ages ago about spraying an overall light coat of something at this stage to replicate fading ...anyone help on this ??
TIA

Nice! Alternating colors from one line to the other or was this a neutral wash that plays tricks on our eyes?

Its burnt umber on the light camo and yellow ochre on the dark camo areas.
Its another thing i have been meaning to try and it sort of works :). If i do the whole thing Burnt Umber it dosnt show on the dark camo areas. It tricks the eye but if you look at the line colour on the dark areas that would not show on the light areas :)

OK who spotted i forgot the yellow leading edges on the wings?
Not the easiest way of doing things but a quick mask a blat with a rattle can sorted it :)

Looks a bit new now..so need to sort that .

Made it look easy, that's the way I would have done it. guess the easiest way is squirt the yellow then mask?

Looks to me like you remembered (y) . Guess it would be easier if you airbrushed it on.
Do you do everything with a rattle can ? :popcorn

Cheers, Christian B)
