Old lesson re-learned

So it's been around 28-30deg here all week (82-86F) - temp stays like that until well past sunset. However I got a spare 30mins around 1600 yesterday afternoon and decided to shoot a coat of glossy black on the back-end of my F-15 as a base coat for the Alclad I'll be applying later... 'Hey what's the worst that can happen ?'

:idonno

Well somehow I got the paint to the plastic, but it took a LOT longer than 30mins. Just over an hour after I sat down, I'd dis-assembled the brush twice and polluted the air around the man-cave with so much bad language I was ready for the Thought Police to arrive any moment.

What had happened was this - the air was so warm and so dry that the paint dried in the tip and built-up forming a 'dam'. That caused a back-log of paint as it was drawn through the cup and that back-log worked its' way back along the needle and pooled around the spring and the locking nut at the back !!

What a mess. Well it's all cleaned-up now and I've re-learned the lesson about patience being 50% of finishing a project. Just thought I'd share.

Ian.

Nothing like patience :soldier Luckily I don't seem to have problems here with paint/temp because I seem to use it all on other things. :zen :zen :zen :zen :zen :zen :zen

Sounds like you needed some paint retarder or thin it down some more .

I'm like You Ian ... but I curse a lot softer ... The misses is in the next room ... She can be a lot less tolerant than the language police ... :facepalm :rotf :woohoo:

I've screwed up Alclad about 20 different ways, never had this problem. Congrats Ian :drinks

Wow, I've been having similar issues trying to paint white... from a spray can! Every time I shoot the paint, something happens to muck it up; whether after it has dried and while I'm preparing to shoot a protective clearcoat, or while I'm spraying it. I cannot catch a freakin' break!

Well it's 'cooled' to around 23deg now, AND 'Daddies Little Stormtroopers' today went back to school after SEVEN WEEKS of summer holidays... so...

Ian.

Nobody really wants to here about your 80 degree temps, especially since we just got dumped on ;)

However,I do feel your pain, sometimes it's not even worth walking up to the bench, and sometimes you realize it very early on !!!
