I was in doubt if I should post this among the WIPs but, since it's already finished, here it is...
This project was inspired by a work I saw on the web, by Mike Rinaldi, a scratchbuilt fictitious turret on a German superheavy E100 tank chassis. I liked his ideas, but had some of my own... Fueled by them and glue fumes, I scratchbuilt my own design, using styrene sheet and spare parts donated by friends and stolen from other kits. Somewhat pretentiously, I tried to guess paths that German designers could have followed, keeping in mind then current production techniques and design philosophy. Ended up with a cross between a Schmallturm and a King Tiger's Henschel turret. I finished my work with a psychedelic "Nachtjagd" cammo scheme and IR gear that the Russians would copy later...
Lots of work and fun!! Sorry for the long post, but I hope you enjoy it...
First steps...
Comparing a Schmallturm from a Panther II and my turret...
Correcting the front hatches, Dragon got them wrong...
Slowly taking shape...
Assorted pics...
Cammo...
The finished beast... Panzerkampfwagen E100 Ausf C, der Überpanzer!!
As I told you, it still needs more weathering...
Finally, in B&W, to get in the right mood... B)
Thanks for your attention and patience!!
