Man, do I hate my 'somewhere safe'.

I rearranged the shop over the summer and two rarely used, but important items were put 'somewhere safe'.

The items were both oils, fife oil for my basses and some magical stuff for the cuckoo clock that must be squeezed out of unicorns or something. They were both in the same spot for about 15 years since the fife oil only gets used every six months and the clock oil five years or so. I can see 'em clear as day, but that spot doesn't exist anymore.

I checked where all the other oils are, nope. I checked where all bass gear is, nope. I checked where the framing equipment is, nope. I checked every single drawer, box, container, shelf, nook and cranny.

That is one safe spot.

So, here I sit with dry bass necks and not knowing what time it is.

Except that it's half past time to buy more oil. :vmad

I'm using the surefire way to find them: I ordered new ones, so I'll end up tripping over one of them minutes after the new ones arrive.

Yep. Found my missing scriber this weekend.....just a couple days after the replacements arrived. :facepalm

Since the clock oil is in a syringe, I'll probably wakeup with it stuck in my neck.

I forgot about this one...After 12 hours of travel and visiting on Thanksgiving I get home and take of my shoes only to find the reason one of them was bugging me was a saxophone reed. I don't even own a saxophone.

Well your safe place is better than what I just experienced. My latest order from Model Space appears to have become a 5 finger discount from my front porch. Petty crime (and worse) seems to becoming rampant here in the Memphis area.

Should have shipped 2 weeks ago. Instead they appear to have shipped it last week, and shipped it FedEx. Soooo the stupid FedEx guy just set it on my porch and it walked away. Guess I will just have all my stuff shipped to my work address from here on out.

I placed a rare (expensive CyberHobby white box) Flakpanzer T-34(r) in a safe place. It has the parts I needed for my current build as spares. Looked in twpo huge T-34 kit stowage bins, nothing. My son and I caused a few avalanches of kit boxes and bins trying to find it on the shelves, still nothing. Placed and order for a T-34 Factory 112 Early kit as it too has the upper rear hull plate as surplus and I would have to scratch the lower rear hull plate (actually modify the kit part). The wife states that it is a flakpanzer so it is with flakpanzers! That never occurred to me and it was in the flak bin!

Paul, that sucks.

I'm not a fan of Fed Ex and avoid them as an option whenever I can. UPS and USPS are predictable in drop off times and both have been the same guy for the 18 years I've been here.

Fed Ex is a different kid each time and can come at any hour. It seems when they screw up, it's something that I really need on a project, whether for the house or the bench. One time the truck flew down the block and disappeared. When I checked tracking, it said it was undeliverable, will retry.

Not too long ago, I got an email from a vendor telling me it was delivered. I opened the door, nothing. Checked tracking, yep delivered. Called Fed Ex, they'll start an inquiry, will take a few days. I walk the dog down the block and sure enough there's a Hobby King box on my neighbor's porch. I could have waited until he came home, but I made Fed Ex come back and bring it to me. I wasn't going to, I feel weird grabbing stuff off people's porches when they ask me to, left alone on my own. There's an elderly lady who lives with them with health issues too, there's no way I would risk scaring her by stealing a package from her house.

I grew up in NYC where you had to sign for everything, no matter how small, UPS or USPS wasn't leaving it. I freaked a bit on my first big order in this house. I came home from work to find a Tamiya 1/16 RC tank sitting proudly on the porch. If you're not familiar, the box is like a steamer trunk and it's in an equally huge box with the Tamiya logo on it like a billboard. I don't know how many hours it was out there, but if it was in the city, the guys roughing' it probably would have ran past the driver on his way back to the truck. These days I leave the stuff out there all day long without regard, even outgoing UPS.

And this is one reason I have a UPS store account. I started it back when I was in business when I realized I was throwing money away waiting on UPS to show up with parts when I could be out running service calls. It more than paid for itself.

Now it's like $125 a year and I have a secure drop off point, plus they will pack and ship stuff for me when I send things. They even call me when I have something.

At any rate, Fed Ex was paid to deliver it to you . I would not feel bad about making them come back for it.
