Bob I have the Sotar 2020 slim and love it. Only thing is the cup is quite small, but I use it most of the time.

Been there done that.
As far as I can find there were a few made with different guns. In the end the Tiger as we know it was chosen. I'm still looking for info on it but its not easy on the internet.
Was this real? I see PanzerIV and Panther in this. I thought the Pz.Kpf VI was the Tiger I
Way cool. I remember staring at those in my dads hobby shop, but the sea wasnt really my thing. Seeing one built though just blows my mind with all the complexity of the rigging etc. Looking forward to seeing your build Bob. Sounds like an exciting visual. Many years ago, 1980 to be precise, I entered my first IPMS competition. It was a National and there were more than 3000 entries. I did very well in competition and it actually was a factor in launching my model career. At that show, some guy entered a sailing ship model in 1/100 scale that, at the time, was the most gorgeous model I had ever seen. He had wired it and lighted the Captain's and Officer's quarters and the gun decks. I could never get that ship out of my head. At that time, the kit was extremely expensive and even then, very difficult to find. I looked for it at shows all over the country to no avail. Toward the end of the VLS era, about 20 years later and 20 years ago, I was able to finally buy the kit as well as it's sister kit from one of my customers. It was the Heller La Soleil Royale ship of the line. He also had the Heller HMS Victory in the same scale. I bought both.
Then, in 2007, just before I sold VLS, a customer came into the office and asked to tour the building. That was a common occurrence and I had trained a couple of employees to give the tour. It was a very large building of some 45,000 square Feet! I wasn't busy at the time, so I gave him the grand tour myself. It lasted about an hour, included the vast museum, and the last rooms we visited were my modeling rooms accessed off my office. While there he saw the Heller kits and asked if I would sell them. I was building the never-ending Logistics diorama even then, and as it had been going very slow, I thought about if I would ever get around to building the Royale. Then he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I even told him he was offering way too much money, far more than they were worth and I didn't really want to sell them. Hi insisted and so I sold them to him. I think I regretted doing that as soon as he left.
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Logistics diorama and, last week, I came upon some photos of the La Soleil Royale on the Internet. Susan posted something about my obsession with that kit on Facebook and a hobby shop owner in Florida told her to have me call him. Long story short. I bought it. I can't wait to start on this awesome kit! Probably in another year! At 80 years old, am I an optimist or what? Look at the rigging on this puppy! I plan on displaying it in rough Atlantic water with the sails billowing in the wind. I also want to light the officer's quarters, gun decks and the lamps on the stern fantail and the weather deck. I am guessing that built, the ship is around two to two and a half feet long and at least two feet tall. It should be delivered tomorrow!

Hey MP,Build it as you see fit James, looks like an interesting subject.
I have built the Revell constitution with and without sails, I did the same with the Cutty Sark many years ago, back in the 1960s. I believe those kits were 1/196th scale. about half the scale of the Heller kits which are 1/100th. I know exactly what you are saying about the sails. I experienced that as well, but, I plan on making these sails at an angle opposed to straight on. I also want to make thenm a stained beige/brown color with the stitching. They sell the aftermarket sails for it and they have the real stitching on them. Because I want it in water, rough seas, the sails would have to have been unfurled. Something as in this photo except with rougher seas and stronger winds. My thoughts are to stain the sails with hot tea, then use Elmer's white glue to dry them on a large compound curved surface like a smooth ball to acquire the shape I want. I believe this photo is an English ship?I think I saw one of these at my local shop a while back. It is an impressive kit. Many years ago I build the Revell Constitution with full sails. It was huge as well. Thing is the sails hid everything and as complex as the rigging is, it just wasn't all that visible with the huge white sails in the way. I thought if I was to ever build another it would be sans sails.
Thanks James! I haven't built one of those since 1968. let's see, that's 52 years ago! Kinda scary! Oh well, onwards and upwards!Way cool. I remember staring at those in my dads hobby shop, but the sea wasnt really my thing. Seeing one built though just blows my mind with all the complexity of the rigging etc. Looking forward to seeing your build Bob. Sounds like an exciting visual.
