Evidently I am no longer capable of reading topic headings as this was supposed to be whats on the bench. Sigh.
And the young fellow sniffing out my mistakes is my QA. I have a list of corrections now to fix while I wait for tracks :)

I have been pondering on this for a while and finally decided that to do it I just had to DO it.

To do lighting and effects on a number of my newer models needs something more than just LED's and some basic on/off switches. So I invested in a learning kit. There are various boards that go from tiny little things to this one which has the most capability. The more basic boards are actually pretty cheap and there are all kinds of interfaces available. Still need to learn the programming language and write my own sketches to get what I want. The recent K'Tinga kit and my large Millennium Falcon are two that have been floating around in my thoughts for a while.

Hopefully a little study and guidance and this should come together.

I have a couple of Arduino boards and a bunch of components and accessories. I've also got a few books I bought. If you need a hand I cant guarantee I know the answer but I can point you in the right direction. I'll look at the web sites I have found and send you a list that may be of use if you would like.

LOL! James I saw that post and wondered if I was in the wrong place, no biggie. :rotf

As to the Arduino info and all, sure thing! I appreciate any input and help. Ran across a guy on UTube that is quite good and teaches in a style that fully gets things across and enlightens, so am off to a good start.

Picked this up today from the local hobby store

The owner told me today he is shutting his doors for good this summer or sooner

:(

The owner retiring? Or is it a case of yet another brick and mortar store not being able to compete with the internet sellers?

I like to shop at the local and the not so local hobby shops. However, if I order from them and from the internet the stuff from the internet order will arrive sometimes weeks before the hobby shop gets my order delivered to them. Plus, the internet order is delivered to me whereas I have to go to the hobby shop to pick up my order. What makes it hard for the smaller brick and mortar hobby shops is that they often have to have a minimum amount order and that amount can be quite high for them which means they and the customers have to wait awhile until a large enough order can be placed.

Cheers

Not sure what the owner is going to do. The store is also a office supply store and copier repair. I know he has a lot of problems competing with the internet. Not only with hobby things but with the office supplies. You are right about the ordering of model kits and supplies. Most of the time he can't get what people want as he is told it's not available or order is not big enough.

Quite excited today. My next SAM arrived from Germany and yesterday my Type 59 arrived. I was really surprised to find China still uses these and 3 of the markings in the kit are modern Chinese.

So because of the size and complexity of the SAM it will wait a little bit. I think the Type 59 is next. And from my search yesterday I found this picture from a 2018 training ex.
