Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Latest Acquisitions

It has been a while since I visited there but Hobby Talk forum has a huge long thread on the latest restoration of the 11 ft Enterprise prop and photos of the current (after restoration) 50th anniversary display. You might check it out Jeff. I will be going after all the photos in the near future for my reference. They really did the restoration right, it even has the fans in the engines with all the lights. It is set up where the lighting fires up periodically with all the bells and whistles.

Smithsonian Star Trek 50th anniv restoration.

James, have you received your copy?

I blame Kenny for this, I simply had to try it.

I saw a video of the restoration, which I'll be using as a ref for sure. Before the Arduino, I would go my normal route and use a motor/gearbox combo to match the speed of the bussards (I have them from 50:1 up to 256:1). Now, I can use an open slot and define the motor speed in code digitally or use a bridge and potentiometer and dial in it analog. Either way, easy peasy and not set it stone. The LEDs can be controlled individually to the thousandth of a second, defined on/off, etc. So again, after it's built, the code can be tweaked to get them to match the production model precisely. Then of course, there's the shuttle to deal with... :D

Nice acquisitions guys. Looks like Christmas has been good to you all.

These are some of the models I got..... as gifts.

First off, at my last IPMS meeting, someone handed me a bag and said, "Here, these are for you":

Braille_Armor_2016_Gift.jpg

My apologies for the bad pic. I shot six pics before settling on the best of them here. For some reason, my camera just could not focus on these.

I thanked him happily. I didn't want to tell him I'd already built three out of four of them already. I was still thrilled to get them.

Next I got this from a guy who runs the SPAModeler's Forums. This will be a review build for that Forum:

Hasegawa_F-14_Tomcat_Dual_KIt.jpg

No, this is not the infamous Tamiya 1/48 scale Tomcat that everyone has been going wild for. There's two models in that box, both in 1/72 scale. This is one BIG box too!

Next, from the same guy, came this model a few days later. I hadn't been told but I think this is a review build as well; that is how I'm going to treat it:

I had offered to review one of these a few months from now, but he apparently decided to send it early.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to get some things done around the house and have managed to get a few hours of modeling in. There's a little progress made on the workbench, but not enough for pics yet. Maybe next week. Until then, these are my latest acquisitions; some of which may be started next year.

Thanks Chris! It'll be interesting building two at the same time. I do need to get some other models finished first.

It's been awhile, so I guess I can catch up for the past couple months...

Took a trip down to the local hardware store today to grab some pipe cleaners for deep cleaning the airbrush...and stumbled across some ziploc bags that were far, far cheaper than the ones from the grocery store. These will be perfect for bagging decal sheets & clear parts for proper storage.

Today was evidently a Vietnam kind of day, as these were on my doorstep this morning. Snagged the Scooter on sale for less than the retail cost of the Hasegawa kit, and the Cobra was too cheap to say no (plus I've wanted to see a Special Hobby kit first hand after seeing some praise about their kits here and at BM). The Scooter purchase I blame on Mike (this kit is the Hasegawa plastics)...but I have to say, after a quick peek in the box it's a damn nice piece of kit. And with the included decal assortment & resin bang seats...I'll need to add nothing to get what I want out of it.

Feeling a little racy. Ebay snag from a week ago. Unfortunately the decals are useless in both kits (the F1 was disclosed in the ad...the sprint car was still factory sealed, so the seller had no idea). So I'll have to decide how I want to handle that.

Couple more Ebay pick ups from a bit ago. The F-107 I snagged as a possible replacement for the X-1 for an Experimental/Prototype GB @ BM.

And these were the Accurate Miniature leftovers I snagged from the seller I had mentioned a while ago. Had for about $10 each shipped. Found the USAFE F-4 decals at Victory Models, and the Dauntless I'll be able to use the Midway decals from my Academy/AM kit that I built for the Pearl Harbor GB. I'll have to source some decals for the FW-190 & Il-2 at a later date. Gary is to blame for the Il-2. :pp

Nice haul James!

Your dad flew Me410s? :eek:hmy: You have any idea of the markings for his plane? That would be truly interesting!

I have been eyeballing the 410 and the Helldiver kits myself, but have been trying to be good and not overdo things though I have something interesting heading my way that should show tomorrow.

Yes he did and I have 1 picture. Will be trying to do it. Have to dig up the pic from my archives soon.
Big kit and it looks very well moulded. Sometime next year I am going to try and build her.

I came so close to picking that up. But I resisted the urge as I already have an F-5A & T-38 to build first.
