L R D G chevy w i p

I picked this kit up a few weeks ago and it has been steadily calling my name ...... so over the past few days as I worked on weathering the sturm tiger I also was working on the LRDG chevy
It is Tamiya's older kit with the breda gun update

The frame is preety straight foreward as one would expect.

Next was the bed or cargo box it is what is often referred to as a flat kit..... amazingly enough there is a wealth of detail
The only thing i added were some slat wood sides to the top of the box.

The next part was the hood cab assembly once again very straight foreward with good detail
A few aditions had to be made.
The battery was wired .....and the condencer was re drilled and plumbed ..... having seen other people do the same with the condencer I looked for reference pics and discovered that the lower condencer line is almost behind the unit and not on top with the other.

the breda gun is a kit in itself ..... since thge LRDG was a fast moving assault group I opted to bed mount the breda gun....... not to mention it just looks cool in the bed.

This is one of my favorite kits and subjects. Lots of conversion options, lots of detail possibilities.
This one has my interest. The added breda is cool.

Thank you all ....... I have been toying with the idea of alot of stowage but looked at it again and with the breda in place I will keep the stowage to a minimum
It is a great kit for anybody who wants to build it ...... hopefully i can do it justice

Last night I decided to get the truck in a primer coat it is just a white.

After that had dried overnight a base of armor sand obviousely modelmakerz paint was used

because this dries quickly i was able too move too the next stage which was the fading to desert pink too get this i mixed armor sand with about 10 % pink and began lightly misting the areas that would receive the most wear from the sun.
I misted it in several light coats because it is easy to overdoo the pink fade.
Hope I got it right!!!!!!!!!!

Once again it dried quickly so on I moved to the distinctive robins egg blue camo....this too was misted on in light coats

I may have gotten a little chip happy , Im trying for that 100 mission look.......there is more subtle weathering to be done that will blend and tie everything together.

Hi Chris,

Nice build so far.
Look forward to seeing more images .
I like the blue camo pattern .

This is a nice build with the Breda in the back .
In fact looking at your build is giving me the inspiration to building this vehicle .

Well done .

Michael
:)

I have been busy working on the LRDG the weathering has been completed .....after all the chipping was done armor sand pigment powderes were diluted and applied with a airbrush

Next came the beginnings of the base ..... it is done by sculpting with clay to simulate the rocky sandy nature of the enviroment the lrdg operated in.
This will eventually become a base camp for the RAT PATROLL tyhere will be scattered life items to show a base camp enviroment , the pillars just give a little background.

Hopefully this will be done soon and then it will be back to the sturm tiger.

Great use of base material and fantastic pilars. Are they wedding cake pilars?
One tweak/suggestion, I would either reposition the LRDG so it doesn't look like it had to back into that spot, or arrange gear and figures so that it is apparent that it did in fact back into its spot.

The LRDG chev is looking superb , I would have done some of the chips really small like with a sponge , I have these make up applicators which are superb for doing them . :)

I want to get the review done on the weathering powders but the pup has chewed through my USB cable for my camera and is in the naughty corner

Jenny

I should have used a sponge .... hind sight is always 20 20 I was trying a new technique to do the chips and got a little carried away . next time they will be smaller this will probally be a shelf queen.........
Have you tried the pigs .... if so just drop me a pm if you want
