how do you guys paint Brick walls ?

I am trying to paint quite a large plaster cast brick wall section 1/35 I primed it white several coats. I painted
it a redish /brown color with vallejo acrylics, which I thought looked quite good. I decided to add a black wash which I had hoped would fill the
fill in the cement betwen the bricks making it look old and dirty, unfortunatley I ended up with a wall with a black mess smeared all over it.

any advice greatly apreciated on how to paint a brick wall problem free.

thanks

Me, I hire a professional, time and aggravation it's worth it to me.

Sounds like you needed a seal coat between the acrylic colors and the wash. Probably something of a dissimular medium. Say you have an acrylic base, you'd want to either use an enamel wash or enamel clear coat then acrylic wash. Acrylic and Enamel do not mix (not suppose to) but they also don't thin each other so if you have an enamel base you can wash with acrylic or viseversa.

Wash it down, do the acrylic again and then do an enamel wash and see what happens.
