Das Werk SdKfz 251/1 Ausf D in 1/16th scale

You are right Bob, too much gearing and all to get the steering wheel to work with it. There would be the worm gear in the box then the weird 90° turn of the steering wheel itself. Yeah, not going to go that far.
Our old friend Wasabi San did it, or was it Randy Ditton on his Rat Rod? He had a rack and pinion steering gear.

Yes I have been working on this. It has been bits and pieces usually on the weekends and I spent a couple of weekends just getting the tracks the way I wanted. They are not permanent as I left one link where I could pull it apart and remove the track on each side. Works like a champ!

Anyway, here is the update. Enjoy!

The next part is the firewall and it is going to be quite busy. There is quite a bit to it and I had to remove 2 molded in levers as they were damaged. It will be an easy fix and the levers will look better than if they were just the molded pegs.

Excellent job and very nice photos too!
Thanks John! I try, and have a format all set up so all I have to do is take the photos, set them in the frame with what I want to show, add labels, then render it to a preset resolution. Usually doesn't take too long and it ends up with something that is easy to follow and consistent. (I hope anyway)

Looks excellent Paul! I did basically the same thing getting the right track tension.
Yeah, this one is giving me a learning curve on these big tracked vehicles. As I have several more in the stash, I will be studying the instructions a little more closely. Not as used to armor as I am aircraft. I can usually pick out the issues with aircraft no problem. These big armor builds are a different beast to be sure, but I am enjoying it.
I am surprised at how complex the firewall and all the stuff that mounts to it is. For the instruments, there is the firewall with holes for the instruments, clear insert for the "glass", a panel that the instrument dials attach to that goes behind the "clear" part, then there is the rear of the instruments that goes behind all of that. With photos there is then a BUNCH of wiring to be run around for appearance sake. As large as this thing is I think I can make the hatch covers where the hinges will work so it can be opened to see in or closed for a different appearance.

My surgery turned out fairly well. Foot and lower leg are working fairly well considering they did a lot of work to clean off the main nerve in my leg. As today I am still a little on the wobbly side, not a problem as my leg is in better shape than it was last time. Tomorrow I will probably spend time on this build. I got the #0-80 die to make the new threaded parts for the track tension adjusters. The #0-80 was the closest to the diameter of the original parts. This is going to be a new experiment as I have not threaded any brass to a 1 inch long part. Have the tooling to do it, just not sure if the process will work easy or hard.

Gees, and I just cut my idler shafts off and moved them back about 2mm. I'm a slacker!

Not sure what I will do with my tank builds as I don't know how they are designed. The 251 would have been easy if I had just NOT glued the shafts solid. As I have the 251/22 yet to build with the Pak 40 on it, it should go a bit easier.
