Colossus-Building the Bismarck-Trumpeter 1/200th

:popcorn fantastic project - well done on the stripes on dissembled parts on a multi-level tower :blink
excellent skills.
This will be a beast when finished.

Ian.

Thanks Ian,

The tower is not finished, far from it, and there's a lot more to do, more towers, a ton of PE and then, the water. :frantic

It is the biggest project for me, that's for sure, and I am looking forward to this journey, and sharing it all with everyone on MA.

Minor update.

Currently focusing on some of the parts that go on the superstructure, and the platform that goes on the smoke stack.
That platform, entirely made of PE, still needs some 10 parts added to it, and then plastic bits will be added.

Searchlights, three showing, I think there are 8 in total, 37mm AA battery - 7 in total, this is just one of them.

Thanks for watching,

Bit of an update after quite a few weeks of not having touched the beastie ... I have been hating the hull color since the day it was laid on the model, mind you, I followed the instructions in the kit, big mistake as it turned out. Now, I am in the process of redoing that with the right color, which is a Lifecolor Mittelgrau something or other, with a few drops of Dunkelgrau.

On top of that, the camo stripes are a pain in the posterior as they seem to be alive and refuse to line up the way they were supposed to. Working on that as well.

The big problem that has been haunting me for a while is the base and cover for the diorama. Had to work out dimensions, find material for the base it's going to be wood and the cover will be plexiglass. Had a quote for a professionally made cover - almost $1,000, that is something I won't pay. In the meantime, I found plexiglass sheets at the hardware store, but they need cutting, and I really have no choice but to have them professionally cut. The sheets are 1,800 mm long, can't do it myself.

All in all, slow progress, only small bits and pieces put together, a lot of frustration with the plexiglass cover options and throw work and learning and getting used to the new job in the mix, and ta daaaaaaaa, not much modeling.

I am really sorry for not being active at all over the past few weeks, but I really do hope that things will settle down, allowing me to enjoy this amazing community once more, like I used to, not too long ago.

Thank you all, take care.

Laurence

:dude
looking good Laurence. Don't stress the straight line match too much as these would have been done manually by men with spray guns i guess who would not have had giant rolls of masking tape!
Sometimes a break can help so i am sure you will be back into it when you are ready.

Ian

Hey Ian, thanks for that mate, I appreciate it.

Look at this photo I found, lots of hand painting :D I think those lines would have been pretty spot on straight and lined up, German style and precision. That's why I am being paranoid about it. I think it will be the most distinguishable feature, at least from a distance.

Cheers,

Laurence

Thanks MP, I am trying, I just got myself into a situation I knew would be coming, and yet haven't managed to deal with it properly.

That section is nowhere near ready - ton of PE to go in, some pieces are dry fitted there, what makes it more difficult is the very delicate hand rails, and I don't even want to think about the rigging yet.

The plan I am leaning towards is to get the base done, put the hull in it and start working on the "water", then add the superstructure layer after layer as I finish it. Let's throw in another spanner, there are so many PE bits that are the ladders between layers. Quite a puzzle, isn't it ....

Cheers,

Laurence

Quite a puzzle indeed. I really like the way you've handled it so far, sending :zen .

The Bismark parts you just showed are looking quite good Laurence!

As to working with plexiglass and acrylic sheet, I can help you there. Have some experience with the stuff and could give you some thoughts pointers and options.
