Anyone from the DC area? Tips needed

Hello dear friends,

I am heading out to DC in October, for the World Congress of Pediatric Surgery (WOFAPS). I will have a bit of free time between talks, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a few hints of interesting places (outside the beaten path) to discover in Washington. I have only been there once a long time ago, just for a few days, barely enough to go to the Air & Space Museum. In any case, any recommendations and tips would be greatly appreciated! :drinks

My best advice about DC. is to stay away from it. Crazy place specialy if you're not familiar with it .

They do have tons of things to see though.

As an airplane buff, I would recommend this Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center which is not the same as the museum.

I don't have much of a choice. Actually I quite enjoyed DC the first time around (I think it was 1999). This meeting takes place every 3 years once in each continent - Zagreb (2004), Buenos Aires (2007), New Delhi (2010), Berlin (2013), now Washington DC and the next one in Sydney in 2019.

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is a must, in my opinion, but it is too far away from the city and as far as I gathered you need to take the Underground and a bus to get there. We'll see if I can arrange something.

I've been there once Alex ... for about 3 weeks, back in my wild & crazy days ... all I remember is some very nice disco's ... there should be a chamber of commerce or visitors center, that could give you the low down ... good luck with your quest ... :salute
