Aircraft Jigs

While on a wing Nut Wings Interest group on Face Book I found some very nice aircraft jigs. They are a clear material and though expensive lok very good.
They are here http://www.vertigo-miniatures.com/vertigo/eshop/15-1-ACCESSORIES

Now , that's a good looking jig :coolio They are awful proud of them though :facepalm

Cheers, Christian B)

I dunno. It looks like an over-engineered, pricey gimmick to me.

Here ya go, for the low, low price 30 dollars+shipping I will send you three foam blocks from a child's playset:

Oh, you need them to be lower? Lay them on their sides. And they have no hard plastic edges to accidentally scratch your paint/decals on.

Supplies are limited so order now :D

Heck you could bag those up and sell them at shows. Give them some crazy sounding name and you'd be set (y)

Hmm, I guess we could all start using Rustoleum and Elmer's.

Reverting to using nothing but those two items (both of which I have among my modelling supplies) is exactly the same as grabbing every new high tech piece of gear out there. Yep, totally the same thing. No difference at all.

Look, I'm not saying that thing is completely useless, just that I can think of a bunch of things that do the exact same thing but would cost approximately zero dollars.

Yeah but before you know it, Jr comes along and says "oh that's where I left it!" and snatch it off the bench, plane and all :pilot

Well, I've just posted pics of my IAR home-brew jig, but I wouldn't mind having one of these beauties for the calibrated adjustments. Part of the hobby for me is a love of tools- and these do look lovely! There's also the sad fact that I do tend to come in off-point on alignment, so a couple of fom blocks wouldn't be much help to me. ;)

Hells bells guys James was just trying to show something new he found. He's not selling it! I don't think we need to turn it into some kind of anti-technology rant.

Thanks James it is a neat looking tool!

I may need to get one (this one looks to be nicely calibrated) as my son seems to react strangely each time I get near his Lego bricks:

I have seen some made from laser cut wood, I wonder if they are cheaper?

Regards,

Well, you can get the wooden ones from UMM-USA. The plastic ones look pretty spiff. so since I didnt have the green for any of those I bought a $12.00 lazy suzan and made my own. it works even.

Thanks Terry . I appreciate your comments .

I have run across these kind of comments before. No one is selling anything .

Just shinning a bit of light on something that could be of interest for another modeler on this site.

Christian :facepalm

I'm sure blocks work well but this tool seems very handy. Unfortunately it is expensive and the seller is charging everyone a 20% VAT which pushed it out of my price range. I do own the wood version from Umm, but I am not particualrily happy with it. In its construction there are a lot of parts and you have a lot of glueing to do. Misalign any part during construction and the jig wont be true.

Yes there are some cool gimmicky over engineered things out there and yes there are some who buy anything new. Whats nice is to know that the stuff is there if the tried and true or simple does not work. Whats nice is that people share discoveries or buy the new stuff and share their thoughts so everyone knows there are alternatives and their pros and cons.

I would like to see a scale on the uprights, angle scale is ok but knowing the height would be more benefit. Guess you could always break out the ruler.
