Adventures in 3D Printing. Panzers and Fantasy

Got one Piggy Bank finished for our Grand Daughter and am printing an orange one for our Grand Son. Unfortunately a Transformer blew last night in town and I lost the print 6 or so hours into a 22 hour print. So doing another one and hoping there will be no power issues in town untill at least 1800 or 0900 tomorrow morning. They arent perfect but they arent bad.

They will love it James!
Well showed my Daughter the pictures and she said they already have piggy banks that fit their room decor so stopped the orange one before I wasted too much filament. Now I have a purple piggy bank for my spare change. Still it was fun. Next up is to make a paint handle and experiment with the resin printer. Mixing some tenacious into the resin and hopefully get a better outcome which is more resilient to breakage. Will see how that goes.

I tried printing out this painting handle back last year in resin and it flopped badly. Partlially the printer settings and partially user error. Today I just had a thought and so tried printing it in FDM. 7 hours and 2 print jobs later and voila. Quite happy with it. I might do a couple of more. Just need to get an elastic band to finish it and it will be tensioned to hold a figure nicely.

The slots on the side you see are where the elastic band snuggles in.
More to come. I have some files for modeling tools I need to experiment with sometime soon.

Hey I’m bringing this back up again I’m SOOPER interested in having someone print the following

Galil ARM & Short Rifle
Negev MG
Tavor M95

but I have no 3D files or any of that. Anyone know where I could go to have same made?

Okay a bit more 3D stuff if anyone is interested. I have played more with the FDM printer, the Elegoo Neptune 2S and have got myself a Neptune 3. Been printing all sorts of things including using TPU which is like rubber to make a new wheel for one of the maintenance carts at work. I also got myself a Saturn 2 printer and WOW.

So what I have here are wheels for a 1.5 ton truck, front panels for the RSO, 2cm ammo and ammo bags for the MG 34 and other assorted parts. I let everything air dry which I think is a mistake before curing so there is residue on the radios and stuff. The Saturn 2 is amazing. Next up is to print a bunch of stuff for the Sd.Kfz. 7/1 or 7/2. Here is a pic of the slice I made ready for printing when I get back down stairs.

Okay maybe next post for that.

No idea why the pictures wont show.
I have also joined a patreon and am going to print some animals. It looks like I will be able to sell them so might see if anyone is interested.
This is the first batch I will work on.

And I have the Humpback whales from this patreon sliced ready to print. They are 1/100 scale and take up the whole plate.

I'm still doing the printing, just mostly with an FDM printer. Making tools and toys for the grandkids and experimenting. Just finished my 8th Crystal
Dragon. I did one for my Granddaughter and showed the guys at work and now a bunch of kids and grand kids will have some for Christmas. I'm trying PLA Plus filament as shown in the picture and printing the base for my figure of Scarlet Johansson as the Ghost in the Shell. Also here are some pictures of some tracks and the muzzles for my Sd.Kfz. 251/21
I've been using Syria Tech Navy Grey Fast for printing in resin and it is amazing. Love the crispness of all the prints. Of course that may also be because of the Saturn 2 8K printer lol.

Oh and this is one of the free clamps that Prussa makes a STL file for. I upsized the file for this one and downsized for another and so have 3 different sized clamps. I have also printed out in FDM and resin the APC from Aliens.

Oh and the right leg is not attached and so the huge gap. I dont like the glue and need to go buy some 5 minute epoxy, clean the leg and reattach. Left to do is print the bottom of the coat and finish printing the base. That should be done tomorrow evening. This is the from the movie.

what splicer software are you using?
I use chitubox for the resin printer as it came with the printer. Have tried a couple of others and it is still the best for me. For the FDM printer I use Cura. I'm still not much good at drawing but have made rubber wheels for our carts at work on Tinkercad as well as modifying some STL drawings. I tried Fusion 360 but I have not had a lot of luck. Just downloaded FreeCAD and giving it a try. A good video for it is here.
I just ordered a couple of books for it on Amazon. Also found a book of exercises. I am hoping to do some mods for some kits and help make some new tools.

I like the figure James! I have been pondering about a Phrozen 8k printer, but it is going to be a while. Had the opportunity and blew my printer wad on a bunch of Wingnut kits that I had been wanting. Have also been concentrating on emptying out a storage building and getting a vintage car moved to where I now live. Once that is done things "should" change for the better and get back to somewhat normal.

Most impressive work on that printing! Nice! I am afraid I will be left in the dust when it comes to a 3-D printer. Partly for the cost but mostly because of the technical aspect of the whole thing. I have no clue about CAD and how to use it.

Keep them coming James!

By the way, you figure looks amazingly like Scarlet Johannsen!

I've been messing with my printer and setting. While I'm fairly happy with most results. But I'm getting this constant surface texture issue. I know you've been printing for awhile now. I'm including these pictures. If you have any opinions, I'd be happy to hear them.
