2022 Plastic Surgeon Meeting posts.

Satellite Plastic Surgeon, Mark Karolus sends pictures of the huge Battleship game that may be played a "Sub Pub" at the Wisconasin Maritime Museum. I have sworn to kick Mark's butt on his own turf! I had great intentions for the Plastic Surgeons Great Submarine Sleep-over this year, but the IPMS National Convention superseded the trip to the Museum this year. Keep watching your submarine movies and be ready to join the Club Sub fun!
I'm near sure I can play the Buckman character in this scene. BE WARNED! Expect NO mercy!

That's great, can't you do battleship remote? But I guess that takes some fun out because you can't fire the taunts face to face. 💥

It struck me when Chris said "We are a family of sorts". I believe that we are a really INTERESTING family on M/A, so here are the details of My engagement to Teresa.

I had decided I wanted to buy a Heckler & Koch G3 .308 rifle. As anyone might, I advised my Sweetie about such a purchase. She never blinked and agreed in times like these additional firepower may prove wise to have on hand.

Our 4th Anniversary of the day we met was coming on. She sold her house and moved into my humble, rural, home. Her "Golden Birthday" was nigh. Born in 1961 and 61 years old, see?! I love this woman. I want her to know it! I chose to make a different purchase.
20220701_203922.jpg

Pricier by a bit than the G3. Much prettier! Now, How to get as many of our beloved family members together to share in one of our special occasions? Hmm. Subterfuge began.

Text and email Kids, Grandkids and siblings. Swearing them all to secrecy. The gathering place would be at our daughter's Marion house. The reason was to celebrate Teresa's birthday. Another purpose was shared, but my Sweetheart suspected nothing.

I will confess I suck at keeping secrets from her. I kept this quiet for 3 weeks. She suspected something was up, but did not press me on the issue.

As lots of loved ones began to arrive at Heather's in Marion, Teresa seemed surprised so many had come. We played with kids, enjoyed everyone's company and "Habby Burseday" gifts were bestowed.
Heather made her Mom a stunning twisted silver wire pendant with a translucent red stone clasped in it. I did not want to upstage birthday gifts with what my ingenious plan would soon bring.

"Baby, there is something not quite right about your birthday outfit." a bewildered Teresa began inspecting her summery outfit, seeking a flaw.
"Nope. Something is definitely missing. " She didn't know what I was talking about.
On one knee, I knelt, produced a small box from my pocket and said "I think I know what is amiss." Then opened the box.
"Put this on for me please?" A flood of emotions crossed my Darling's face. She trembled, her eyes leaked a tiny bit, she smiled a huge smile and managed to say the one word I hoped for.
"Yes!"
When she realized she was the only person to be surprised she seemed a bit miffed. Not one member of our family had breathed a word of my idea. Yes, they all knew.
2 of our Birthday party guests were on the ball enough to shoot video.
I love this woman. I want her to know it.
We expect to have a modest ceremony next fall (?) and Honeymoon in Nashville, Tennessee. She always wanted to sing in Nashville.

Anyone that wants to make a joyful noise with us and share the fun is invited!

Thanks Brothers!

Thanks Guys!
Since I'm post non-modeling related subjects here, I'll throw this story in too!
She LOVES Globes! There is a huge globe at the corner of Bell avenue and Fleur drive in Des Moines. Every time we drive past it, one of us comments how that big steel globe deserves a spot on our place.
20220712_170256.jpg
The Church wouldn't sell it to me. Frank, Nate and I were going to heist it, but my imaginary MH-53 Super Stallion helicopter remains imaginary,
20220712_170408.jpg
I whipped out the TLAR Models shrink ray and shrank the sumbitch! Teresa seemed delighted! Then we had Birthday supper at Baratta's!
There's only one catch.
I think I've committed "Self Sex" here. How on God's Good Green Earth will I top this for Teresa's birthday next year? :bang head

Imagine other possible TLAR shrink ray targets! May's Island in the Cedar river? The Iowa State Capitol building? The old US Navy base at Subic Bay? :Drinks::lol:

We now return you to your regular model specific programming. Thank you for your kind attention! :rimshot

Congratulations Chris.
I think a old HUEY could lift the globe.
It would not be as stealthy a 53, but I know we could fly it.

1 September, 2022 meeting post:
We sallied forth under a tentative looking sky to the environs of Ankeny.

We will begin with Show n' Tell.
Francisco Melendez Bundeswehr Leopard2A4. This is the1/35 scale Meng Kit. Francisco recently returned from Puerto Rico where he visited family. I am amazed by how far "Frank" has come with his figures. There is some discussion about how the suspension attaches to the lower hull. This might be the first time I have seen an armor model in drydock.

New (to me) Plastic Surgeon Jose' brought a few survivors from his move to Iowa from California. Jose' confesses he like to build old-tool model kits. (We should talk!!) See pictured here Revell's 1965 1/72 Ki-43 Hayabusa with hand painted green camouflage.

Jose' saw a picture of USS San Diego leaving Bayonne, NJ in a snow storm, (or maybe Boston harbor?) and decided to try his hand at making a snowy 1/700 US Navy CLAA.
The end result is that his frosty effect covers most of the horrible, chunky detail of the crude Matchbox waterline kit. I didn't mention his radar antenna was upside-down.

His next build was Cyber-hobby's 1/72 Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat. Jose painted his Hellcat in Royal Navy colors to make a more colorful, interesting model. Since the engine detail was hidden, Jose' opened a few panels to show off said detail.

Jose' commented the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale SBD-5 Dauntless fit well (YGBSM!) and had plentiful detail. When Mexican pilots trained to fly the A-24 Banshee in San Diego during World War II, they flew the US Navy Dauntless with Mexican AF markings.
"Hey Jose'?"
"Si Manuel."
"Come and get me!"
"Where are you?"
"I'm over here behind thees leetle beetie cloud!"

Finally, The USMC 1/35 Tamiya (? Maybe Academy) Abrams M1. When you move, if you use the the black, rubbery mesh to cushion your models for transport, the mesh degrades and becomes gooey. OR! this Marine crew parked their track in a bad neighborhood and someone stole the tracks on the right side.

20220901_195020.jpg
Young Ty Stevens has left the nest and has his very own model space! One of the Warhammer Space Marines is brush-painted and the other was finished with an airbrush.
20220901_191907.jpg20220901_191915.jpg20220901_191921.jpg
President Nate Stevens finished his RS Models 1/72 Ki-100 and his Finemolds 1/72 Ki-100 Goshiki-sen models. I referred the use of the appropriate Green to our Club authority Ross. Both of us are skeptical. Nate 'fessed that both are sprayed with whatever green he had handy (Model Master Gunship green) not so unlike many late-war Japanese fighters might have been. Kudos to Nate for finishing one of RS Models horrible 1/72 kits!
20220901_192138.jpg20220901_192157.jpg
Joe built a 1/35 Tamiya Sherman! Inconceivable!! His very first! I've known Joachim for years and never saw a WWII subject, except for his Panzer III. The Model Master acrylic flat coat makes it look well worn and faded without looking like it crashed into a flour mill. Very nice!
20220901_192204.jpg20220901_192131.jpg20220901_194850.jpg
Then Joe went and mostly built (No kiddin'!) Bronco's 1/35 Staghound armored car (?) He won't be using the clunky kit 60lb. rockets. The 37mm M4 cannon is a real nut-buster to assemble. The fuel tanks come with all the parts the real thing did to strap them up and what a joy Joe says THAT is. The kit wheels are oddly simple. Smuck the 2 halves together and paint.
20220901_192229.jpg20220901_192231.jpg
This purchase made sense to me. Fenders with opening tool boxes to upgrade a 1/35 Puma kit. That should be cool! I learned Joe has also never ever ever once used any resin parts in his models. Huh. Ain't that sumpthin'? He's never built a WWII 1/35 Tiger I or a Panzer IV. Ross and I are hunting for a full resin 1/35 Panzer IV kit for Joachim. SOMEBODY did mention a certain 1/72 Moonbat that someone has been ignoring lately. I wonder who?

We left a little early because I needed to properly feed my Sweetie. There was conversation about a contest venue, but for now, that is SECRET!
Thanks again for looking in! :stinker::victory::oldguy::drool:

My! You all are really getting some interesting meetings with that one gal showing a bit too much cleavage. :hmm:

I was wondering if you posted her to see if we're paying attention? Or was she Francisco's new figure model.

29 September 2022 Meeting Post;

Thirteen Plastic Surgeons gathered at Ankeny Hobbytown and we made the meeting! Good Ol' Webb Groos shambled on down from Ames by his onesey! It's always a treat to see "Webster". Quentin came with Ty and club President Nathan Stevens. Ty and Quentin make "little Whorewammer" figures together (Nate's words). Show N' Tell came first again. YAY!

Joe Lotz is our new IPMS Chapter contact. Aimee remains our webmistress and Facebook liaison. George "Dad" Stevens gave us a cool book of tall ships. "Just in case you run out of Ideas". As if THAT was ever a problem for me! :bat

20220929_184822.jpg20220929_184815.jpg20220929_184759.jpg
Ronnie Schultz bought a Tom Daniel's S'Cool Bus form parts and is converting it to a "Short Bus" Public School Pro-streeter. This will get the challenged kids to class swiftly! Ron's always seem to be making a silk bus out of a sow's ear. :burnout
20220929_190139.jpg20220929_190144.jpg
Nathan Stevens did an RNZAF P-40N and an experiment in salt/hairspray chipping on an old 1/72 Ki-43. The Oscar looked yay and verily shop-worn.
20220929_190226.jpg20220929_190241.jpg20220929_190248.jpg20220929_193135.jpg
USAF Vet, Carlton Burger built the 1/144 Revell AG F-16AM in Netherlands Markings. It's the "Flying Jolly Pollys. The Fightin' 322!"
(These are not the J-063 markings for the RNLAF "Blaze 13" Viper that shot down a Serbian MiG-29) See the Polly-bird on the Vert. stabilizer!?
I felt obliged to introduce Mr. Burger to The Warrior Musicians to complement his lil' F-16 build!
20220929_190305.jpg
Carlton is also working on another Christmas Party (turd) present. He's actually building Heller's 1/72 Bell P-39D Airacobra! This accomplished airplane model maker comments "It isn't that bad." What stones he has!
20220929_190813.jpg20220929_190828.jpg
Bob "Hey Bob" Hageman brought his collection of NASCAR racers. I suspect #11 is his personal number. Hey Bob is converting a '53 Corvette to the finned and refined Cadillac prototype.
20220929_204325.jpg
George Stevens brought us his 1/72 Hasegawa Ki-44 Shoki. He did the hand-painted camo sometime ago, but the ol' Tojo has stood the test of time quite well!

20220929_190631.jpg20220929_190329.jpg
Here's a treat! Ross' Aunt saved a leather jacket for him some years back. She said it was German and black. This turns out to be an original World War II Kriegsmarine jacket. Such was worn by U-boat and E/S Boat crewmen along with a pair of matching leather pants. The lining looked comfy and cozy, but not truly heavy enough for frosty North Atlantic operations. This garment fits Roscoe very much the same way it did when he was in High School. I wonder where he left the Zundapp his Aunt surely has squirreled away someplace.
20220929_194017.jpg
Jose arrived after a little while, with a bevy of models! It seems our newest California transplant is another "Swiss Army Knife" of model making.
20220929_192807.jpg20220929_192844.jpg20220929_192852.jpg20220929_192831.jpg20220929_192835.jpg20220929_192953.jpg
Nate and I are most interested in Jose's 1946 1/720 DKM Graf Zeppelin. Check out the air group! Me-262t, Do-335t, TA-152t with folded wings. A new idea, A Buzz-bomb launcher on the bow of the ship! The first surface to surface missile to be deployed in combat (in 1946).
His GZ's paint is well done, his PEE is straight and tidy. So often a truly talented Ship Guy drops the ball on the airplanes. These aircraft complement to the model. The only thing missing are the Skipper and crew. "The PEE guys are too flat." comments Jose.
I didn't mention any 1/700 wimmen-people.
20220929_192903.jpg20220929_193036.jpg20220929_193039.jpg20220929_193010.jpg
Remember Starfix?! Those gawdawful airplane models made in Israel many moons ago? Trust your eyes, this is that D-Mustang!
Followed by a Roden 1/72 Float Pfalz, Monogram's 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat, and Tamiya's 1/35 original tool Bundeswehr Leopard.

20220930_161756.jpg20220929_190200.jpg
Sometime ago, Curt Young took his Volume 1, Number 1 Squadron Flyer from his collection to Kinko's and made 10 copies of the very first edition. He gave the copies to 10 of his fellows as a "blast from the past" gift. I never forgot how cool I thought that was.
So, when my first Flyer came from the new Squadron Hobbies, I gave it to Curt.

Curt is the most kind and gentile modeler I ever met. He takes me aside to tell me "Dirty Jokes" so Teresa won't hear such words come from him.
Curt works for the same church/retirement center his wife Tootie does. He uses no internet and doesn't have a smart phone.

I bet he read that new flyer from cover to cover at least twice during the meeting. His only comment was "Where is the order form?"
I advised him to call the phone number and chat with Brandon Lowe or his Dad, Russ to place his order and request a Flyer for his own address.
I am sure if an order form appears, Curt will use "Technology" and actually FAX his order to Ellijay, Georgia.

As an aside, We are still sweating out Greg and Maria Metge after Hurricane Ian made landfall, pretty much in their front yard.
Nikki Urbanek-Meister, pictured in a previous post, is also MIA in SW Florida. We mustn't borrow worry. Have a little Faith Baby. Have a little Faith.
Just for the fun of it!
Goodnight Missus Calabash. Wherever you are.
